ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Recognizing the multi-faceted impact of Supply Chain activities across interconnected socio-economic, gender, and environmental dimensions, this role aims to operationalize and achieve the goals of contributing to a more resilient, equitable, and gender sensitive Supply Chain, outlined in the Strategic Roadmap 2022 – 2025. The Senior Advisor will support HQ, RB, and COs, in building a holistic whole Supply Chain approach tailored to their operational context and needs.

The Senior Advisor on Gender, Diversity and Environmental Governance (GDE) directly supports SCO senior management in converting the theoretical approaches on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE), Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into practical steps for the World Food Programme’s Supply Chain day-to-day activities, interventions, and operations.

THE ROLE

Serving under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of Supply Chain, the GDE Senior Advisor will be embedded in SCO’s front office. The Advisor will be responsible for leading the development and supporting the implementation of a cross-cutting portfolio of policies on gender, diversity, and environmental sustainability in line with the pillars and objectives articulated in the Supply Chain Strategic Road Map 2022 – 2025.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Strategic Plan Alignment

  • Provide technical leadership for the development of Gender, Diversity, and Environmental sustainability interventions, tapping into WFP corporate initiatives, resources, and plans.
  • Support SCO management in implementing and strengthening Supply Chain’s Strategic Roadmap 2022-2025, using an intersectional, inclusive, and transformative approach to provide technical oversight and operationalization of the WFP People Strategy, with a focus gender and diversity in Supply Chain.
  • Lead the development of policy on the gender, diversity, and environment nexus, and propose Supply Chain specific initiatives to contribute to a holistic approach to Supply Chain management, with a focus on the social and environmental impact of Supply Chain activities, benchmarked against industry best practices
  • Lead the design and implementation of a gender-transformative, diversity-focused, and environmentally sustainable multi-polar Supply Chain Strategy for humanitarian operations, that positions WFP as a leader in this area within the humanitarian sector.
  • Keep abreast of industry best practices and cutting-edge research on GDE, and produce high quality documents, guidance, and communication materials to support management decision-making and mainstream gender equality, diversity, and environmental sustainability principles across Supply Chain operations.
  • Benchmark and measure implementation progress, flagging alignment challenges in reaching goals set by senior management, whilst proposing possible solutions to reach desired goals.
  • Support the Director’s Office in their preparation and engagement with strategic partners within and outside the UN humanitarian system, especially in GEWE, ESG and DEI.
  • Utilize WFP’s deep field presence, to bolster the human capital within and outside the organization to actualize the Supply Chain Strategic Roadmap 2022-2025; utilizing GEWE, ESG and DEI benchmarks against the humanitarian space and private sector to achieve SDG 2 and SDG 17.

2. Cross functional collaboration within and outside SCO for an inclusive and sustainable humanitarian supply chain.

  • Undertake actions that support resource allocation, programmatic priorities, and supply chain plans to incorporate GEWE, ESG and DEI as needed.
  • Prepare and produce analytical packages for internal and external audiences on WFPs Return on Investments on GEWE, ESG and DEI approaches, working closely with the GEN, HRM and PRO-C.
  • Contribute towards a data-driven environment by working within and outside SCO to build database sets and/or propose systems that are beneficial to WFP’s operations.
  • Spearhead formulation of fund-raising documents as well as reviewing current and identifying new/potential partners (government, UN-NGO, IFIs, academia, private sector, strategic and operational) based on internal GEWE, ESG and DEI priorities.
  • Foster productive partnerships and liaise with key internal and external stakeholders including governments and national organizations, UN agencies, NGOs, private sector actors, and academia to share knowledge, build capacity, and explore synergies.
  • Flag operational constraints to SCO management, requiring the development of strategies and provisions of advice to ensure cohesive and effective GEWE, ESG and DEI interventions.
  • In alignment with new supply chain strategic efforts, ensure that GDI are integrated into theories of change, indicators, and logical framework.

3. Technical Support

  • Strategically engage and guide HQ, RB and CO teams in new ways of thinking and GDE implementation based on SCO priorities. Sharing technical tools and resources amongst WFP operations
  • Advise management on how to take a more proactive approach to seeking the next generation of talent that will ensure WFP is prepared for a greener, more agile, and more complicated world. Work with country teams to ensure budgets and staffing plans are GDE-sensitive and reflective of gender, diversity and environmental sustainability commitments.
  • Ensure new insights from field assessments and industry learnings are incorporated into SCO interventions and operations.
  • Develop strategies and approaches to facilitate multi-team/multi-country shared learning on what is working to standardize best practice, develop comparative advantages for new program development and advance strategic partnerships.
  • Develop KPIs, methodologies, and analytical tools to assess and evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impact of Supply Chain operations worldwide.

4. Carry out additional tasks as deemed necessary by the Office of the Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Gender and Development Studies, Climate and Environmental Studies, International relations, Political Science, Management or related fields.

Experience:

  • 8 or more years of professional, postgraduate experience in a relevant field of work, including the theoretical and practical implementation of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as well as Environmental and Social Governance interventions.
  • Experience in leading Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment assessments and innovations to test approaches that can bolster evidence generation.
  • Experience in emergency project management, programme development, coordination, and advisory positions, including a focus on environmental sustainability and socio-economic impact. • Experience in WFP and UN field operations; including formulating guidance and situational analysis using an intersectional and gender lens.

Languages:

  • International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge of a second UN language would be an asset.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This is an International Professional position and is open to all nationalities. Limited Fixed-Term Appointment (LFT) position is a non-mobile staff appointment in the international professional category for a limited period for up to 2 years.
