DUTY STATION (City, Country): Yangon with possible travel to state/region

Report To: Head of Nutrition

TECHNICAL SUPERVISION: National SBN Coordinator

DURATION: 6 months (with possible extension)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THR ASSIGMENT

SUN (Scaling Up Nutrition) is a global movement that unites Government, UN agencies, Civil Society, donors, business community, academia etc, in an effort to improve nutrition and end malnutrition in all its forms. SUN Business Network (SBN) is one of the SUN movement’s four global networks. At the global level, WFP and GAIN are the co-conveners of SBN, and this would be replicated in Myanmar, with coordination support from other UN agencies.
The SBN Myanmar was established in 2019 to galvanize private sector actions in support of national multi-sector and multi-stakeholder plans nutrition plans. Since then, the SBN Myanmar has been implementing actions alongside other networks of the SUN Movement in Myanmar to highlight the role of the business in multi-stakeholder collaborations, national nutrition strategies and mobilize private sector to act on improving nutrition in Myanmar.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY

The SBN Consultant will technically support National SBN Coordinator in implementing SBN Myanmar Strategy 2022-2025. Required changes and adaptations will happen in close collaboration with WFP, SBN Executive Board, and other partners.
Specific objectives of the consultancy are:
1. Support in the implementation of the SBN and related project(s).
2. Lead in improving SBN’s positioning among the private sector entities while expanding the membership base.
3. Lead business sensitization and advocacy activities and deepen engagement with the private sector in the strategic priority areas.
4. Manage reporting and stakeholder communications activities.
5. Explore potential resource mobilization plan for SBN and develop resource mobilization ideas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities are divided into five main categories.
1. Business Engagements & Advocacy
• Design and implement business advocacy and communication activities
• Lead the development of the business engagement plan in consultation with Executive Board and members
• Map, list, and prioritize relevant private sector entities in Myanmar and strategically approach them for membership and engagements
• Organize business engagement and advocacy events to expand membership of SBN
• Plan and organize awareness and advocacy session(s) with existing members for strengthening business commitments
• Setup and operationalize thematic working groups in line with the SBN Strategy 2023-25
• Conduct thematic working groups meetings, document the meetings discussion and implement follow-up actions with the National Coordinator
2. Technical Assistance to Members/SMEs
• Manage technical assistance and SBN match-making support activities from conception to completion
3. Project Management Support
• Technically backstop SBN National Coordinator on strategy and project implementation and develop and provide on-demand implementation support
• Support the SBN National Coordinator in the quarterly planning of project activities
4. Communications and Reporting
• Develop and submit annual/bi-annual project report and SBN newsletter to SBN donor(s)
• Develop SBN advocacy communications, materials, and channels
• Support in organizing SBN events together with national coordinator
5. Resource Mobilization
• Together with the WFP Nutrition Team, explore funding opportunities and lead the development of a funding proposal to mobilize funds.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Education:
Advanced University Degree in Business administration, Marketing, Development Economics, Health Economics, and any other relevant field.

Experience:
Minimum eight (8) years of work experience including 5 years in the senior/mid-senior level in the private sector, business engagement for the advancement in the development goals, and stakeholder management/engagement.
Nutrition and food sector experience is desirable.
Work experience in Myanmar is considered advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of global and country nutrition trends and issues
Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, persuade, influence, and adapt communication styles to different situations and individuals
Good understanding of multi-stakeholder platform and partnerships
Familiarity with SUN Movement and SBN activities (Global and national) is an asset.
