JOB PURPOSE
The Programme Associate will support to integrate protection, gender and disability inclusion to WFP operations in Bangladesh to maximize safety, dignity and equality and minimize social tensions and unintended discrimination or exclusion. The objectives of this role are to:
- Strengthen inclusion in gender and protection to enhance the safety, dignity, and integrity of WFP supported programmes.
- Providing technical assistance to documentation, reporting, and knowledge sharing to foster gender equality, improve meaningful disability inclusion, enhance women’s empowerment, and to reinforcing data protection measures through WFP supported programmes and strategy.
- Strengthen strategic partnerships and advocate for WFP strategic priorities through active engagement with different stakeholders and interagency level.
- Undertaking and participate in different learning and sharing modules, events, webinars, courses to develop a skilled attitude for further supporting WFP programmes also sharing the knowledge in different platforms and within team members.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Under the supervision of the Programme Policy Officer (Gender and Inclusion), the Programme Associate will be responsible for completing these responsibilities, but is not limited to:
- Analyse changes in the operational context that affect the gender issues, protection risks faced by affected people, and their ability to receive information and provide feedback or complain.
- Identifying potential adjustments WFP can make to maximize protection, gender and accountability to the affected population (PGAAP) outcomes; promote gender equality and transformation and minimize risks including protection from sexual exploitation and abuse.
- Provide support and build capacity for the integration of PGAAP for staff, partners, contractors and other affiliated entities to integrate PGAAP in their work.
- Represent WFP in interagency and other external fora and maintain relationships with gender and protection mandated actors.
- Documenting PGAAP outcomes for ad-hoc, mid-year annual reports. Drafting inputs for annual country reporting, APP reviews together with showcasing of gender equality work done in different WFP programmes.
- Technical support to the programme and functional units with knowledge of beneficiaries’ data protection and privacy impact assessment.
- Support application of the gender and age marker (GAM) to all programmes and monitoring at both the design and monitoring stages.
- Provide support for capacity assessment for the new and existing cooperating partners under different programmes to assess the areas of protection, gender accountability and PSEA
- Active contribution and participation at the advocacy campaigns on women empowerment, gender equality, disability inclusion and preventions of gender-based violence, in collaboration with other UN agencies, government, and WFP field offices through support on developing concepts notes, IEC materials, messages, budget, event planning, and brainstorming sessions
- Ensure the documentation of the advocacy events for global sharing within WFP communities.
- Any additional responsibility and assignments shared from the supervisor.
OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Flexibility, including to travel on short notice and in challenging and difficult environment.
- Openness to intensive mentoring support with a view to taking over responsibility for protection, gender and disability inclusion in the entire operation.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: University degree in one of the following disciplines: international development, law, gender studies, human rights, political or social sciences, or another related field.
Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in providing Protection, Gender and Disability Inclusion or in development projects, of which at least two years are direct field experience.
Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Bangla

• Team spirit and excellent interpersonal relations.
• In-depth and operational understanding of integrating protection, gender equality, women’s empowerment, accountability to affected populations, disability, sexual and gender-based violence, conflict-sensitive programming and humanitarian principles into humanitarian assistance.
• Strong analytical, writing and communication skills.
• Sound knowledge and skills in training and facilitation, including adapting materials for the audience. Client orientation with excellent interpersonal and team skills, including mentoring skills. Cross-cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of UN system policies and functions of protection-mandated agencies.

To undertake the role effectively, adoption of a team working style is requires; in particular, working closely with field offices and other units under the guidance of the Unit Head.
