The United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a faculty position. Qualified candidates at all levels will be considered at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, a demonstrable research capability that will enable the candidate to develop and sustain an internally and/or externally funded research program in his/her area of expertise, publish his/her research findings in refereed journals, and actively engage in promoting the growth of the UAE University. The appointees will be involved in the co-ordination of clinical training and assessments of undergraduate medical students with participation in teaching activities including Clinical skills (purpose built Simulation Center) for 3rd and 4th year students in the Preclinical Course and hospital based 5th and 6th year students in Junior and Senior Surgical clerkships respectively. In addition, clinical activity will require a commitment to the American Committee for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited training of Residents in General Surgery in a unique single, multiple site program preparing candidates for the Arab Board of Medical Specializations, and Intercollegiate MRCS examinations conducted in the UAE. The Department hosted the inaugural overseas Joint Surgical Colleges Fellowship Examination (JSCFE) in November 2013. Appointees will engage in acute care and elective surgical practice, conducted in one, or more, teaching facilities managed by the Health Authorities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It is essential that the candidate holds or eligible to hold a consultant license with the department of health to be able to function on a consultant level. Interest and involvement in research endeavors within the CMHS, which has strong basic sciences, and in collaboration with hospital based clinical colleagues is anticipated. The College operates an integrated/problem-based learning curriculum, the UAE University and other funding bodies provide research opportunities in a new medical school complex. Appointees are expected to help in the recruitment of students for various courses and counsel them to facilitate their choices. Appointees will provide the necessary support to the senior colleagues in the development of curriculum and courses for teaching surgery.

Candidates must have doctorate/higher professional recognition,
Preferred Qualification
Fellowship of one of the Royal Colleges of Surgery is preferred.
