What will you do?

Under the direct supervision of the Administration Associate and overall supervision of the Finance and Administration Officer, the incumbent will undertake the following:

  • Provide reliable driving services by using assigned transport means for the transport of authorized WFP staff members, officials, and visitors as per authorized routing following UN safety and security rules and regulations; Deliver and collect goods, mail, documents, and other items.
  • Take care of the day‐to‐day efficient maintenance of the assigned means of transport, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean, tidy, and in good running condition at all times.
  • Record the details of official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc, adhered to the traffic rules and follow safety driving requirement. Adhered to use the United Nations booking hub, digital logbook, and other developed tools via the system/Hub. The driver should fill out the vehicle logbook, vehicle checklist, staff logbook (shuttle bus), fuel and wash coupons properly with full information as required. Perform other related duties as required.
  • Identify any apparent problems during field deliveries and report them to the supervisor. Take the steps required in accordance with the rules and regulations in case of an accident. Reports any accident or driving incident, even minor, to your supervisor as quickly as possible and completes necessary reports. Drivers assigned to a particular vehicle are responsible for the care and general maintenance of the vehicle. Follow security and safety procedure when driving passengers back and forth.
  • Committed to standard operating procedures for Fleet in the country office and Global Fleet Directives. Adhered to the Vehicle Tracking System instructions and follow up all required actions.
  • The vehicle allocated should be checked on a daily basis, concerning fuel, water, oil and other fluids, tire pressure and any damage/ repair / etc. Committed to record the daily trip information and the time when driver taking and returning the vehicle's key on the daily movements sheet.
  • Adhered to the use of Humanitarian Booking Hub System, instructions and follow up all required actions.
  • Support Admin Unit when required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of Secondary School education. Formal driving training with valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.

Experience: Two or more years of work experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, 4WD, trucks, and other kinds of motorized vehicles.

Experience in defensive driving including handling of armoured vehicles is desirable.

Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali a requirement.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways, conditions, and security issues.
  • Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices etc).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basics.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Radio, Email, Telephone, and other applications.
  • Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs
