What will you do in this position?

Within delegated authority, the RAM Associate-Price will be primarily responsible for generation of a knowledge base on the socio-economic and local market conditions in the country, including conducting monthly price monitoring and ad hoc market assessments to support market-based interventions, ensuring the integration of market analysis information into food security situation analyzes where appropriate, contributing to policy debates and establishing or maintaining a partnership with key stakeholders on market-related issues.

How can you make a difference?

In this position, you will have to:

  • Lead or participate in the provision of timely, effective and quality market information to support vulnerability profiling, targeting, program decisions and monitoring and evaluation frameworks;
  • Liaise with national and international organizations with respect to data acquisition, establishing sound relationships with different agencies for effective collaboration and a common understanding on market analysis.
  • More specifically, undertake market-related field assignments to support operations, emergency, recovery, rehabilitation, and development, including the provision of an analytical basis for the identification, design, and implementation of market-based interventions (e.g cash and vouchers, local purchases…) that support lives and livelihoods to address food insecurity.
  • Plan, design, and conduct market and trader surveys and analyses to assess food security and local market conditions.
  • Serve as a focal person at the national level to foster partnerships around market assessments.
  • Where possible, work in partnership with government/non-government counterparts to strengthen market and price information systems and promote the integration and harmonization of these systems.
  • Strengthen market information, through updating relevant trade and socio-economic data, regular monitoring and reporting on market and economic conditions, and their implications for market functioning and food security.
  • Support WFP's broader efforts in regional/global food price monitoring, management, and reporting by providing data, analysis, and feedback to broader RAM products.
  • Design and implement capacity-building initiatives related to the design of trader surveys, the implementation of market studies, and the strategic analysis of food markets for field staff and governmental/non-governmental counterparts.
  • Provides managerial and technical guidance for designing and conducting analyses, including, computation, interpretation, and presentation of results for food security surveys and key indicators (comprehensive food security and vulnerability surveys, food security monitoring, indices. data disaggregation.
  • Leads all aspects of surveys including design, implementation, analysis, findings and reporting. Ensures that assessment findings are easily translated into operational programmatic response.

Education: Advance Diploma in Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Science, or another field relevant to international development. First Degree with additional years of related work experience/training courses is an added advantage.

Experience: A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in a related field preferably in a humanitarian context.

Knowledge & Skills: We are looking for a dynamic, agile and Research Assessment and Monitoring Associate who is passionate about People. Specifically, we are looking for:

  • Strong analytical skills, initiative, maturity of judgment, tact, negotiation skills.
  • Ability to: communicate clearly both orally and in writing in English.
  • Work in a team and establish effective working relationships with people from different national, cultural and institutional backgrounds; establish priorities and plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those under his supervision; deal with situations that may threaten health or safety.
  • Flexibility: accept work assignments outside the normal office description; for frequent field visits.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with national/regional counterparts and office staff, host population, donors, NGOs, and other UN agencies.
  • Requires the ability to work under pressure and on multiple tasks.
  • Very good skills in SPSS, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience in Access, CS-Pro, ArcGIS, EpiInfo, Nutri-Survey, SAS, STATA of advantage.
  • Extensive experience in carrying out household-level needs assessment in high-inflation contexts.
  • Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of food security and agricultural surveys.
  • Knowledge of Sphere Standards in nutritional assessments

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language.
