ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This job is based in WFP Gode Sub Office, and job holders typically report to head of logistics or the designate.
At this level work is carried out under minimum supervision. Job holders are expected to produce organised and accurate technical work and reports. They may provide guidance on standard practices to other staff and counterparts in their area of work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. To define, implement and revise the logistics unit work plan inputs and monitor the logistics support team progress against that plan regularly.
  2. Provide leadership to the logistics support staff that help them to move the things forward despite prevailing challenges.
  3. To develop and administer the necessary logistics market research to avail the relevant commercial assets capacity that serves the timely and cost-effective approach of WFP humanitarian consignments.
  4. To monitor the commodity pipeline information (in terms of the expected consignments and the call forwards requirements) from the different sources in order to ensure the proper warehouse capacity layout planning and the timely delivery of WFP consignments to the destination.
  5. Reviewing, updating and implementing the commodity storage, dispatch and receipt procedures that serve the proper handling, stacking and accounting of WFP consignments in the warehouse and ensure the commodity storage under hygienic and pest free conditions.
  6. To monitor the daily food dispatch and receipt operations against established targets. Work with his team closely to resolve the operational bottle necks and escalate the problems to higher levels as necessary.
  7. Provide leadership support for WFP cash and voucher programs. This includes but not limited to: establish and update the shortlist of food retailers, inspect the quality and the quantity of the food stock supplied by the retailers, establish the allocation of the coupons per retailer and site for each planned distribution, monitoring the prices of the food assistance compared with the general level of prices in the market among other tasks.
  8. Participate effectively in the field trips to support the various sub-offices with the conceptual and practical knowledge and to develop own expertise through exposure to a various range of operational logistics activities outside the routine desk profile.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Experience; At least 3 years of post-graduate professional and relevant work experience in a humanitarian organization and dealing with logistics operations.
Language: Fluency in oral and written communication in English (level C) and Somali Language is Mandatory.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Experience coordinating service providers’ contract execution.
• Experience arranging supplier deliveries and the discharge of WFP vessels (rail, air, or sea).
• Experience in evaluating offers and writing proposals.
• Experience in report writing.
