ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
This job is found in Addis Ababa Country Office. Job holders report to a Logistics Officer, Head of Unit or the designate.
At this level, job holders demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance for all assistance modalities for both WFP and logistics common services. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis. Job holders typically manage a small team, supervising and coaching staff.
JOB PURPOSE
WFP Ethiopia operations have continued to evolve in terms of volume, geographical coverage, and complexity, especially with the increasing food insecurity and worsening security situation inside the country, resulting in WFP providing food assistance to more than eight (8) million beneficiaries under various food assistance activities in 2022. Accordingly, WFP Supply Chain has been required to devise and establish an agile and effective Supply Chain strategy and capacity to address the dynamic and rapidly evolving environment. The Logistics Officer will collect, analyse and report on information to maximise efficiency of the logistics transport operations and activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
1. Provide support to logistics operations and activities, following standard processes and facilitating, directly or indirectly, the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
2. Facilitate and ensure timely delivery of food to Final Distribution Points (FDPs) in the country & delivery of Non-Food Items (NFIs) from hub to hub and FDPs.
3. Support management of contracted logistics vendors' activities including performance monitoring and measurement.
4. Respond to a variety of technical queries/requests for support, following standard processes, and obtaining guidance as required, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries with a high standard of client service mind-set.
5. Contribute to budget preparation, monitoring and revision for all delivery modalities, ensuring adherence to relevant procedures and in compliance with corporate standards.
6. Assist in monitoring inventory management processes to track trends and account for the inventory status from source to beneficiary.
7. Facilitate and ensure delivery of bulk and break-bulk cargo from port to various hubs in Ethiopia in efficient and cost-effective way.
8. Process documentation for execution of logistics operations (e.g. Transport PO validation, invoice verification), take appropriate actions to resolve operational issues escalating various issues to the supervisor.
9. Collect and compile data, produce and/or contribute to reports and ensure information accuracy in corporate systems in support to informed decision-making.
10. Liaise with internal and limited number of external stakeholders to support efficient logistics operations management.
11. Provide guidance to other support staff, in order to assist them in completing standard tasks to agreed standards and deadlines.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A post-secondary certificate in Supply Chain, Logistics & Transport Management, business, or completion of a university degree in any other relevant field is an added advantage.
Experience: Secondary school education completion with a minimum of 6 years of working experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of work experience
Knowledge & Skills:
- Experience coordinating service providers' contract execution.
- Experience arranging supplier deliveries and the discharge of WFP vessels (rail, air, or sea).
- Experience in evaluating offers and writing proposals.
- Experience in report writing.
Language: Fluency in oral and written communication in English (level C) and Amharic.
