ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP’s Strategic Plan (2017-2021) is guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth in the 2030 Agenda, in particular SDG 2 on ending hunger and SDG 17 on revitalizing global partnerships for implementation of the SDGs.
The most vulnerable and food insecure people live in fragile, resource-scarce and degraded environments, in areas that are prone to climate disasters and exposed to frequent shocks. Food Assistance for Assets (FFA) addresses immediate food needs through cash, voucher or food transfers, while at the same time it promotes the building or rehabilitation of productive household and community assets, as well as the promotion of livelihood practices and agricultural techniques that will improve long-term food security and resilience. Since 2013, FFA programmes in more than 50 countries have helped between 8 and 15 million people each year bring hundreds of thousands of hectares of degraded land back into productive use, plant thousands of hectares of forests, and build scores of wells, ponds and feeder roads. FFA has also been instrumental in improving communities’ livelihoods through trainings, for example on context-relevant income generation activities and agricultural practices curricula.
In this context, WFP’s Asset Creation and Livelihoods Unit (PROR-L), is looking for a Global Regenerative Resilience Adviser to expand the organization’s advocacy, guidance and capacity strengthening efforts on a very focused set of practices, for which a specialized skillset is needed. These topics, that could be at rural, urban, and displacement level, depending on the context, include: regenerative agriculture, intensive homestead improvement, holistic rangeland management, circular waste management, agroforestry, nature based solutions, and integration of regenerative practices in to camp/settlement. This expertise and support is needed across different agro-ecological regions and relevant Regional Bureaux and Country Offices (COs).
