JOB PURPOSE

Guided by the Corporate Partnership Strategy, to manage effective relationships and collaboration with external partners in order to meet WFP strategic objectives. To represent WFP externally to safeguard and promote WFP interests. To ensure a flow of relevant information between WFP and partners, and propose opportunities for synergies that maximise results.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Implement the work plan for assigned area, in order to ensure timely and cost effective delivery of results, in accordance with WFP and Corporate Partnership strategy.
2. Build and maintain effective relationships with member states, UN agencies, NGOs, host government and other partners, in order to keep them informed on important, strategic operational WFP issues.
3. Represent WFP in UN and other multilateral bodies, NGOs, member states, provide them with information on the programme and develop joint information programmes to increase WFP’s profile and protect its interests.
4. Identify opportunities to develop new and existing synergies with other UN agencies, and make suggestions to senior Officers in order to support more effective and efficient approach to food assistance.
5. Prepare and provide information for member states, UN agencies, NGOs, host government and other partners on the strategy, design, relevance and impact of programmes, to advocate the work of WFP.
6. Communicate to WFP relevant discussion and feedback on programme activities and issues of priority to WFP, gathered from member states, UN agencies, NGOs, host government and other partners to engage them with intergovernmental/interagency discussion, and inform future activities.
7. Obtain inputs from WFP that will contribute to inter-governmental/inter-agency work to ensure that WFP positions are properly explained and taken into account in decision making.
8. Research and analyse current activities, political and social events of UN and other multilateral bodies/governments in order to identify issues that may impact WFP activities, inform senior Officers and propose positions on these issues.
9. Participate in the implementation of relevant inter-agency initiatives which have been prioritized corporately, providing central resources and local training in order to contribute to sustainable change.
10. Plan and supervise the work of more junior staff to ensure that tasks are accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
11. Other as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced university degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Journalism, International Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

Experience: Five years or more of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field of work, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
Language: International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.
National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. Strong written and oral communication skills
2. Basic understanding of government and corporate strategies and priorities with experience in developing partnerships.
3. Explored new partnership opportunities, provided inputs into concept note or proposal with prospective partners. Understands basic due diligence, legal and contracting processes at WFP in pursuit of new partners.
4. Provided donor briefs and resourcing suggestion to senior managers to strategically allocate material and other appropriate resources.
5. Supported creation of external communications and briefing materials
6. Ability to engage proactively with different stakeholders relevant to the resource mobilization and advocacy
7. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
8. Strong knowledge and ability to quickly assimilate UN/WFP specific processes and systems

The Partnerships Officer is a member of the Partnership, Report and Communications Unit in the Country Office in Bangladesh. This Unit delivers on a wide range of tasks and performs a wide range of functions and liaises with all program units, primarily Programme, as required. The Partnerships Officer works under the overall supervision of the Head of Partnership, Reports and Communications (PRC).
