Child Protection Specialist

Rowad AlKhair Association humanitarian CBO is one of the community-based organizations in Russifah district; working to provide humanitarian, Development, and relief for vulnerable families and deals with protection issues related to children and women.

Child protection is the prevention of and response to abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence against children. Rowad will be implementing Child Protection prevention and response to violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation among children in Hard to reach communities in partnership with UNICEF by using Child protection case management as process of helping individual children and families through direct social-work-type support, and managing information well. Within child protection case management, there should be appropriate involvement of children throughout the process, as well as full consideration of the best interests of the child.

Geographical scope of work and mobility: Zarqa villages, Rusaifah, Sahab, South Ghour area, Aqaba villages, Ma’an villages.

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The position of Child Protection Specialist will be responsible to provide the overall technical support for Rowad’s child protection case management program. The Child Protection Specialist will be a seasoned protection professional with a formal degree in psychology, sociology or social work, and with experience working within child protection case management programs. The Child Protection Specialist will provide technical supervision and support to Rowad Child Protection teams under the leadership of Child Protection Advisor.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of Rowad Child Protection Advisor, the Child Protection Specialist will be responsible of the following:

  • Responsible for the overall coordination of child protection activities, in particular child protection case management this includes contributing to donor proposals, reporting and programing direction and strategy.
  • Continued development of resources, training materials and guidance for the child protection program Support and provide technical supervision to the Senior Child Protection Officers
  • Identify and address any aspects related to the child protection program, in order to ensure high quality services.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing Child Protection Capacity Building activities for program staff, Partners and CP committee members.
  • Provide technical guidance, support, mentoring, coaching and role modeling of best practice for all child protection staff
  • Provide support to the Child Protection Advisor by filling in the role/tasks as needed, in particular in the absence of the Child Protection Advisor
  • In coordination with the Child Protection Advisor, represent Rowad at relevant national child protection coordination meetings, and if ever needed, engage with field level protection and child protection coordination meetings.
  • Closely support the Child Protection teams in all cases undergoing Best Interest Determination (BID) process. This includes review of all BID reports, attendance at BID panels when needed to support IMC child protection staff, and represent Rowad as needed where cases of other agencies are presented. In addition, ensure timely and clear communication to the Child Protection Advisor regarding all BID cases
  • Support child protection staff to coordinate and participate in case conferences, both internal and external, for complex and other cases as required Project areas . Take the lead in coordination and chairing of complex case conferences as needed
  • Lead on the recruitment process for all child protection staff to ensure high quality child protection case management services are being provided to children, and that documentation completed by Child Protection Case Managers reflects this. This will be done through Capacity building and training for staff, and quality measures such as file checking and case discussions and reflections.
  • Work closely and effectively with other Rowad departments to ensure coordination between child protection and other sectors of intervention, primarily health, and PSS services
  • Coordinate donor reporting in relation to child protection activities, other staff as needed, To ensure high quality and accurate reporting of data and activities, as well as capacity building staff to ensure they are able to actively and effectively continue to donor reporting
  • Work closely with Rowad M&E to ensure effective trends analysis, measurement of indicators, Monitoring and evaluation of child protection activities in the camps, including regular engagement with beneficiaries.
  • Promote and communicate Child Safeguarding and PSEA principles, policies and requirements to all staff in urban areas, and ensure that any issues are brought the attention, including through proper reporting mechanisms, to Rowad focal points for both Child Safeguarding and PSEA
  • Ensure high quality correspondence with local partners, other agencies and governmental organizations.

  • Ensure maintaining high confidentiality of information, up to date documents, including processes and verification.
  • Experience in working with children

Working Relationships:

  • Proactively engage with your supervisor and key staff.

Representation:

  • Represent Rowad in a positive and professional manner to contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of Rowad mandate, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to other actors.

Security:

  • Ensure the application of, and compliance with, security protocols and policies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor degree in Social Work, Psychology, and Counseling, Social Science or related field is mandatory.

Professional and personal requirements

– Child Protection Case Management experience is mandatory

– Experience in working with children

– Experience in managing staff (desirable)

Languages

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Arabic and English
