Job Summary

The primary function of the Child Protection Coordinator is to provide technical support and guidance to, and overall coordination of, International Medical Corps’ child protection programs and activities.

A strategic and comprehensive approach to addressing child protection issues requires ongoing development, capacity building and monitoring. The Child Protection Coordinator should have the relevant technical capacity to lead on these aspects for IMC's child protection programming at all levels, including in some contexts specialized programming such as case management.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation:

Tasks and responsibilities

  1. Provide technical advice and support to the IMC child protection programs, specifically the case management component (where this is in place)
  2. Lead and support IMC's child protection staff through direct supervision, coaching and mentoring
  3. Provide technical and programmatic advice and strategic input to IMC's child protection program, including case management programming (where this is in place)
  4. Work with Program and Project Managers to oversee implementation of child protection project activities ensuring that services are delivered on time, on budget and in compliance with donor regulations
  5. Assist program staff and the MEAL unit in the development of logical frame works which meet or exceed donor indicators
  6. Actively monitor child protection program activities at field level, ensuring quality of programming and flagging concerns to the relevant Program or Project Managers
  7. Assist in concept note development and proposal development as needed
  8. Contribute to regular reporting submitted to donors
  9. Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of qualified child protection program staff
  10. Ensure IMC's child protection staff receive quality training on child protection topics including but not limited to: Child Protection Minimum Standards, Case Management Guidelines, CP and GBV Interagency SOPs, Caring for Child Survivors of Sexual Abuse, Unaccompanied and Separated Children, Best interest Determination Principles and Procedures, Child Protection Coaching and Supervision
  11. Provide technical input and where applicable lead on assessments, research and program evaluation capturing lessons learnt and good practices
  12. Represent IMC at national and field level cluster/sector working groups and forums (as needed) including Protection Working Groups, Child Protection Sub Working Groups, and other relevant forums/cluster meetings according to the context
  13. In contexts where IMC is providing child protection case management activities, lead on the development, roll out, implementation and monitoring of the relevant Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS), (likely to be PRIMERO/CPIMS+)
  14. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with protection and child protection partners
  15. Ensure engagement and effective coordination between IMC's child protection and other sectors of intervention including GBV, health, MHPSS and nutrition
  16. According to the country context and team structure, the Child Protection Coordinator may act as a PSEA and Child Safeguarding focal point, actively promoting safeguarding standards within IMC and amongst beneficiaries served by IMC through provision the training for IMC staff, and general capacity building on safeguarding standards and processes.
  17. Develop and incorporate staff care and support strategies for child protection staff and introduce and mainstream principles of self-care
  18. Perform other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed in this document are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and not necessarily all inclusive.
  19. As applicable to this position, an individual must promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the organization and maintain a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in any field
  2. 7 years of experience in a protection field.
  3. Experience in Staff supervision is required
  4. Advanced English skills
