Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea

We offer:

Traineeships of 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea, starting in November 2022:

Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section (PPI):

The Delegation's Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation follows political developments and events in the country and provides analytical reports to the EU's Headquarters, based in Brussels (Belgium). The Section is also responsible for press and media contacts as well as for the organisation of media- and public diplomacy events and activities.

Main tasks:

  • Assist with the conceptualisation and organisation of political, press and public diplomacy activities (both small- and larger scale events) which may include contributing to the drafting and editing of content for the Delegation (i.e. press releases, political statements/speeches, political reports, information, education and communication materials as well as supporting the engagement with local and international media etc;
  • Assist with data gathering and political analysis and reporting from open sources.
  • Assist the section with tracking EU- or EU-relevant content in local or regional media (printed, digital) and maintaining a scrapbooking file of the placements, both electronically and as hard copy;
  • Support the production of the Delegation's Weekly Press Review;
  • Provide constructive feedback regarding EU in PNG visibility methods;
  • Contribute to the content production for the Delegation's website including the planning of content for specific occasions (international days, politically significant dates etc.;
  • Take part in relevant internal and external meetings as well as policy dialogues and assist with putting together briefs, reporting and forward planning documents;
  • Participate in preparing Delegation procurement procedures in accordance with EU rules and regulations (tenders and Calls for Proposals);
  • Any other work-related tasks as assigned by your Internship Supervisor.

Traineeship in the Cooperation section (COOP):

The Delegation's Cooperation Section is responsible for designing, programming and implementing EU development cooperation programmes in Papua New Guinea, and also takes a leading role in coordinating with resident and non-resident EU member states, in the context of Team Europe, on the implementation of all EU assistance to boost synergy and increase the visibility of the EU. The Cooperation Section also supports and promotes EU trade relations with Papua New Guinea in the context of the EU-Pacific States Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

Main tasks:

  • Assist with providing operational support to section members in close collaboration with the secretaries;
  • Assist with the drafting and the editing of reports and other documents for the Section including support to the review of information-, education- and communication materials and project documents etc;
  • Take part in relevant internal and external meetings as well as policy dialogues and assist with putting together briefs, reporting and forward planning documents;
  • Assist with the assessment and analysis of project proposals and reports and provide comments and suggestions for further consideration;
  • Participate in preparing Delegation procurement procedures in accordance with EU rules and regulations (tenders and Calls for Proposals);
  • Contribute to ensuring that relevant information on partners (government, development, private sector, CSO) is kept up to date;
  • Any other work-related tasks as assigned by your Internship Supervisor.

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • For reasons related to local living conditions and personal safety and security, only Papua New Guinean nationals can apply for a traineeship with the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea.
  • Applicants for a traineeship in the Political Press & Information Section shall have graduated from a university or equivalent higher-education establishment with at least a Bachelor's degree in International Relations /Politics, Journalism & Public Relations or another academic qualification that could be considered relevant for the position offered
  • Applicants for a traineeship in the Cooperation Section shall have graduated from a university or equivalent higher-education establishment with at least a Bachelor's level in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics and/or International Trade or another academic qualification that could be considered relevant for the position offered
  • Selected trainees must arrange their own accommodation within reasonable distance to the EU Delegation.
  • Selected candidates must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (at least 2 shots), depending on the further evolvement of the pandemic, appropriate measures might apply in the EU Delegation.

Candidates must apply to the e-mail address DELEGATION-PAPUA-NEW-GUINEA-INTERNSHIP@eeas.europa.eu and send the following documents:

  • A detailed standard Europass curriculum vitae (CV) (CVs in other format will not be considered)
  • a cover letter describing why you want to participate in a EU traineeship
  • and an application form

Please mention in the subject of your e-mail: Funded Traineeship – PPI (for Press and Information Section) or COOP (for Cooperation Section) (you may only apply to 1 traineeship per delegation, however based on your profile, the delegation could offer you a traineeship in another section).

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin. In assessing the applications received, account will need to be taken of the COVID-19 situation as well as the personal safety and security situation, thus only Papua New Guinean candidates will be considered.

The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the very evolving context of the COVID-19 outbreak in the host country.
