ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This job is found under WFP Yemen Country Offices based in Amman, Jordan and generally report to the Head of Unit or designate.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

To implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritising effectively.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Support in the implementation of the country specific communication work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, as well as support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with overall communications and WFP strategies.
  • Contribute to communications through good research, analysis of assigned area of work and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audience(s).
  • Maintain a contact list of journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, in order to support regular and appropriate communications.
  • Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilising platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
  • Support generating the donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
  • Monitor and analyse traditional and social media to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies.
  • Collate outreach data contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reports, Support communications activities that enable informed decision making and ensures consistency of information presented to the media and other stakeholders.
  • Liaise and interact with WFP staff and external counterparts to support aligned activities and a coherent approach to communications within WFP.
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to support WFP to quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis.
  • Other as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

You have:

  • First University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications or other relevant field.

Experience:

You have:

  • Minimum one or more years of relevant professional work experience in Communications roles with a progressively responsible humanitarian work experience with UN and/or NGO.

Language:

You have,

  • Fluency (level C) in the English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic is an added advantage

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and in writing).

  • Strong team player who is able to establish effective working relations with persons of different national and culture backgrounds.

  • Ability to perform detailed work, work of a confidential nature and/or to handle a large volume of work possibly under time constraints.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • This position is required for a period of consecutive 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to the operational needs and availability of funding in Yemen Country Office.
  • Consultancy contracts will be subject to a mandatory break in service after a period of service of 11 continuous months.
  • WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with WFP HR Manual.
  • The position is based in Jordan, Amman and the selected candidate will be expected to relocate.
