Job Context:

The post will be based in Beirut Country Office. The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the Head of Retail and the technical guidance of the Supply Chain Division and Retail Data team in Headquarters.

Job Purpose:

To perform data collection and data analysis of itemized sales data from WFP contracted retailers, in addition to third-party price monitoring data

Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Head of Retail and the technical guidance of the Supply Chain Division and Retail Data team in Headquarters, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

Data Analysis & Visualization:

  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports from a variety of Retail data sources to support decision-making;
  • Create dashboards and reports to support CO Management and Field Offices including but not limited to: price monitoring, category management, etc.
  • Produce regular reporting and dashboards for various stakeholders;
  • Acquire data from data sources such as publications, country statistics and external sources on the Retail industry;
  • Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets to support Retail Operations; could include: inflation analysis, exchange rate fluctuation, market scarcities/ brands availability, etc.
  • Analyze third party price monitoring data to construct price index for measurement of shop performance and recommendation of prices
  • Conduct cost-efficiency analysis for WFP programmes utilizing price data from Supply Chain, Retail prices, and Third-party price data
  • Conduct in-depth anomalies reporting and analysis to detect potential fraud risks for further follow-up

Data Collection:

  • Work with WFP contracted retailers and various software providers to collect itemized sales data from WFP contracted retailers
  • Filter and clean data to ensure data integrity and accuracy of retail reporting
  • Locate, define and implement new process improvement opportunities in data quality at various levels (Shops, Software companies, products, field office level and country office level)
  • Aggregate other data sources available (third party monitoring, internal field monitoring, beneficiary feedback & complaints, etc.) to input into retail dashboards
  • Work with HQ, and Technical and Data teams in the CO to ensure data is aligned with other units

Project Management (Market Price Monitoring):

  • Manage relationship with Third Party Price Monitoring firm to ensure timely collection of prices in the market and quality assurance of collected data
  • Manage performance of Third-Party Price Monitoring firm, working with them to resolve any issues as they arise, and escalating when needed
  • Analyze third-party price monitoring data to construct price index for measurement of shop performance and recommendation of prices

Other:

  • Support ad-hoc reporting requests when needed by CO Management or Field Offices
  • Coordinate with various data teams (IT, OIM, VAM, etc.) and data systems across WFP to ensure alignment with CO
  • Work closely with the team to prioritize business and information needs;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Advanced university Degree in Statistics, Economics, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other related field or First university degree with additional years of related experience or trainings/courses.

Experience: Typically one or more years of postgraduate professional experience in the fields of Statistics, Economics, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other related fields. Experience/knowledge in Retail or Retail insights regarding data is a plus.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic. Knowledge of French is an advantage.

DESIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experience with data collection, FTP servers, etc.
  • Very good command of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, macro functions, advanced functions…)
  • Knowledge of SQL; MS SQL Server is a plus
  • Experience using data visualization tools including Tableau
  • Ability to analyze big data
  • Ability to adapt to new requirements when needed
  • Ability to adapt to various stakeholders requests
  • Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, and courtesy
  • Is able to work independently and under time pressure
  • Mature judgment with good communication and interpersonal skills
