The United Nations World Food Programme is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. The World Food Programme’s engagement in the Philippines is constantly evolving. Initially commencing operations in the 1960s, WFP officially re-established its presence in 2006 to support the peace process in Mindanao, provide life-saving food assistance in emergencies and develop programmes that seek to improve nutrition and the overall quality of life of vulnerable people.

Since 1 July 2018, WFP has been implementing a five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP 2018-2023) to support the Government of the Philippines to address food insecurity, reduce malnutrition and building the resilience of vulnerable populations. In its strategic plan, WFP identified four outcomes and five main activities:

• Strategic outcome 1: Crisis-affected people in the Philippines can meet their food and nutrition needs during and immediately after an emergency.
• Strategic outcome 2: Women, boys and girls in provinces prioritized by the Government have adequate and healthy diets to reduce malnutrition by 2022 in line with government targets.
• Strategic outcome 3: Vulnerable communities in Mindanao have improved food security and nutrition by 2022 in line with government targets.
• Strategic outcome 4: National and local government agencies have enhanced capabilities to reduce vulnerability to shocks by 2022.

BACKGROUND AND PUPORSE OF ASSIGNMENT

WFP Philippines produces various publications, visibility items, and information and multimedia materials for office use. The materials range from reports and advocacy products to infographics, banners, newsletter, templates, etc. In this regard, WFP needs the services of a qualified graphic designer to help the office meet its growing need for quality design services.

The graphic designer will provide technical support to the communications, partnerships and reports unit in designing WFP publications and contribute to the development and improvement of the design, branding and layout of materials produced.

The graphic designer will also ensure that products and reports follow WFP graphic guidelines, provide the best possible functionality and usability to WFP partners and contribute to the overall branding process. The responsibility under this service is to ensure the implementation and adherence to existing WFP graphic guidelines; layout of reports and publications; development of new graphic solutions; and design of innovative products.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The job holder will work under the direct supervision of the Communications, Partnerships and Reports Officer or the designate.

JOB PURPOSE

This is a generic Terms of Reference (ToR) which refers to key assignments in the area of graphic design.

WFP will use this process to qualify and select When-Actually-Employed candidates in this respective area in order to facilitate a quick and smooth process for specific assignments.

The incumbent is expected to work an average of a few days a month. The request of working days per month may change depending on the deadlines/activities planning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Transform text-based communications materials into visual graphic design materials such as publications, infographic, brochures, backdrop etc.
  2. Develop designs for communication materials based on assignment brief.
  3. Provide recommendations on the best and most relevant visual design style and materials suitable for the project’s target audience.
  4. Liaise with and report to Communications Officer regarding any visual design work.
  5. Perform other related responsibilities as required.

Deliverables can include but are not limited to the following:

  • Publications, project brochures, infographics, factsheets, leaflets, posters.
  • Visuals for social media campaigns.
  • Design for project communications collaterals such as: notepad, dug bag, backdrop, banners, t- shirts/hats, cards, calendars, etc.
  • Design for project’s presentations.
  • Custom photo and video editing.

Deliverables will be required to be produced in a variety of formats including for digital and print distribution, depending on the needs of the project.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in graphic design or any other related qualifications including art and design.

Experience:

  • Four or more years of experience in graphic design production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital).
  • Experience in producing a wide range of products, from reports and advocacy products to infographics, data visualization products.
  • Working experience in development or humanitarian environment is desirable (NGO or other UN Agencies).

Knowledge:

  • Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, including the use of design software such as Adobe Design Premium, In-Design, CorelDraw.
  • Ability to work with different teams and deliver to deadlines.
  • Good understanding of new and evolving technologies as well as digital platforms.
  • Show a clear and mature style of design, demonstrating an understanding of the communication requirements of a UN agency.
  • Capacity to work under very tight deadlines.

Language:

  • Good written and communication skills in English.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE
