JOB DESCRIPTION
-DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Provide personalized coordinated care, support and treatment for patients and families.
Treat people with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Involve patients, families and caregivers by providing them with education and resources for offering optimal support to promote recovery.
Administers a wide variety of therapeutic services to various patient types (geriatric/adult/pediatric/infant/neonatal), i.e. oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medication administration, secretions clearance, lung expansion, basic and advanced airway management techniques (oral/nasopharyngeal airways, intubation) emergent and non-emergent non-invasive ventilation, invasive ventilation, high frequency ventilation, transport of mechanically ventilated patients, specialty gas administration (nitric oxide).
Stores, prepares, dispenses and administers medications related to scope of services, according to: competencies, department or hospital policies and physician orders.
Administer a wide variety of diagnostic services to various patient types (geriatric/adult/pediatric/infant/neonatal), i.e. bedside spirometry, pulse oximetry, nocturnal oximetry studies, blood gas sampling and analysis.
Performs assessments and re-assessments of their patient history (chest x-rays, vital signs, blood gases, progress notes, etc.) in order to determine appropriate therapy modalities/frequencies/care plans.
Participates as a member of the Code Blue team.
Updates the department workload, ensuring accuracy of information (e.g. patient demographics, services, care plans).
Follows departmental equipment disinfection procedures.
Documents all pertinent data in the patient's medical record and hospital and department information system following completion of all service.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of all departmental forms, flow charts, logbooks and their proper usage.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients needs are met and that hospital policy is followed.
Attends education in service programs and reads professional journals to maintain professional competency. Obtains appropriate hospital specific education and training.
Assists shift personnel in completion of activities in other care areas.
Participates in departmental performance improvement projects.
Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
-Education and Licensure:
Graduate from North American Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program, credentialed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Canadian Society for Respiratory Therapy (CSRT).
OR
Graduate from Home Country Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program or Allied Health Program with Emphasis or Special Respiratory Therapy Course & training.
Must be eligible to obtain licensure from Ministry of Health.
-PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1 year internship or training, in adult/pediatric/neonatal Critical Care Units post graduate of bachelor degree.
Minimum 3 years experience, in adult/pediatric/neonatal Critical Care Units post graduate of diploma degree.
-SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP.
Computer literacy.
Work may require lifting or pushing in excess of 30 pounds.
Work requires walking, running, climbing and bending
