WASH Project Assistant – AZRAQ

Action Against Hunger is an international non-governmental organization working in more than 40 countries in the fields of nutrition, food security and livelihoods, water sanitation and hygiene, and care practices. ACF is looking for its program in Jordan for WASH Project Assistant

Work place: Jordan – Azraq- Zarqa Governorate

Overview: Manage Operational and Maintenance (O&M) committee members in Azraq camp to provide private latrines maintenance services and provide admin support to other WASH activities inside the camp as needed.

Responsibilities:

Objective 1 : Capacity building and presentation:

  • Support the identification of the active maintenance structures in the camp, its role and functionality.
  • Assess the technical capacity of the O&M committee members and identify the training needs.
  • Support the identification of the capacity building approach for the O&M committee members.
  • Support the preparation of capacity building activities for the O&M committee members in each village.
  • Participate in the capacity building activities. This includes but not limited to prepare the training materials, conduct/ facilitate the capacity building training, provide technical and operation support for the O&M committee members.
  • Support the preparation of the community meeting to introduce and present the O&M committee members.

Objective 2 : Manage the O&M committee members, and identify of the needs to repair/improve the private sanitation facilities:

Support O&M committee members to assess the needs of small repairing in water supply system / sanitation facilities (Repair, leakages, change broken tabs, small concrete infrastructures).

Verify the list of the materials developed by the O&M committee members to provide the private latrines’ maintenance service and develop a detailed BoQ.

Provide the technical support for O&M committee members to perform the upgrades/ maintenance activities based on the agreed international standards in the camp.

In collaboration with the technical WASH team (Hygiene promotors, community facilitator team, and senior WASH officer), share WASH messages with O&M committee members and ensure that they are effective cascading of the messages to the shelters receiving the maintenance services.

With the support from senior WASH, order the needed rehabilitation/upgrades materials requested by the O&M committee members from Logistics, ensure proper storing, receive the material, check the quality of the materials and ensure the effective use of the materials

Ensure the proper storing of the requested materials and the master tool kits provided to O&M committees.

Support the maintenance/upgrade activities of the private latrines when needed.

Follow up with the O&M committee members and coordinate with the WASH technical team on the volunteering work that will be provided by the shelters, which received the maintenance services.

Follow-up and monitor the rehabilitation/ upgrade works conducted by the O&M committee members.

Commit to ACF safety rules, ensuring the safety of the beneficiaries in the shelters will receive the maintenance services.

Objective 3: Community dialogue sessions and implement community action plans to address vandalisms of WASH facilities

  • In collaboration with ACF community facilitator team and with the Senior WASH officer support, prepare and conduct capacity building training for the O&M committee members on the development, implementation and evaluation of the one action plan per village to address the vandalisms of WASH facilities.
  • In collaboration with ACF community facilitator team and with senior WASH officer support, support the O&M committee members to conduct action plan development activities at village level that aim at addressing vandalisms of WASH facilities
  • Provide the technical support to O&M committee members to design, monitor and support the implementation and the evaluation of the action plan and organize the mid0term reviews activities.
  • Provide support to the O&M committee members and ACF community facilitator team to organize, facilitate and conduct community dialogue sessions to ensure that camp residents have formal opportunities to feed into the management and information around WASH services in the camp.

Objective 4: Reporting

  • Log community feedback/ complaints regarding the WASH services in particular for private latrines and share it with the senior WASH officer.
  • Report on the daily activities done in the filed by the O&M committee members.
  • Ensure proper documentation of the activities.

Objective 5: Ensure adherence to Action against Hunger gender requirements

  • Commit and comply with the organization gender, age and diversity principles & policies (working with people, communication)
  • Support on the implementation and the promotion of gender, age and diversity principles through daily activities and or through the management of their teams (Managing performance & development)

Skills

  • Should have a strong understanding of the area context and local customs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and facilitation skills
  • Ability to define training needs and support developing the training manual
  • Able to organize community-lead/ level activities
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Able to prioritize tasks according to their urgency,
  • Problem solving skills and creative and innovative thinking,
  • Able to work both individually and as part of a team.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced and under pressure to accomplish work tasks within assigned time.
  • Being flexible, willing to perform other duties and work irregular hours.
  • Proven knowledge of computerized systems ( Microsoft office )
  • Capacity to adapt communication based on targeted audience
  • Experience in using Kobo/ODK data collection application is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the use of an Android tablet (Experience in utilizing technology tools and possess the ability to master new technology tools, as required.)

Education:

Bachelor degree or diploma in Civil/water resource Engineering degree or in Water and sanitation engineer / construction engineer / mechanical engineer/ public health.

Type of professional experience requested:

  • 2 years of experience in water sanitation and Hygiene activities
  • Previous experience delivering training to beneficiaries on related topics
  • Proven knowledge of water and sanitation, plumping, and construction
  • Previous experience in working in complex and dynamic contexts
  • Camp experience is a plus

Language level: Arabic essential, English would be a plus
