JOB BRIEF

Save the Children Jordan is establishing a Reggio-Emilia influenced preschool. This preschool is part of a social enterprise model, where the income generated will support women entrepreneurs in underserved communities to establish their own preschools and hire women in these areas.

The preschool operated by Save the Children Jordan is founded on warm, loving relationships between students, parents, teachers, and staff members. We provide children with educational activities appropriate for young learners, taking into account their physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs. We realize the importance of providing a nurturing, safe inspiring environment, rich with opportunities to be open and curious. We also aim to provide a supportive and inspirational working environment for all our staff members.

The nurse is responsible for the healthcare of our students and staff members. She supports student achievement in the learning process by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for all children within the school setting. The school nurse addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of students in collaboration with the colleagues while adhering to Curio’s policies as the Save the Children Jordan (SCJ) Safeguarding policy and Code of Conduct.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Principal

Staff directly reporting to this post: N/A

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform hearing, vision, growth, development of students and other health screenings;
  • Treat students and staff as needed;
  • Provide healthcare and develop care plans for children with chronic or ongoing health conditions;
  • Administer medication in cooperation with parents;
  • Monitor student immunization records;
  • Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene;
  • Help students who have feeding disabilities;
  • Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (i.e., prevention of communicable diseases;
  • Write referrals for pediatricians and other health specialists;
  • Ensure compliance with national and local health laws;
  • Takes part in the procurement planning meetings;
  • Participates in all school events including open houses, parent meetings, and others;
  • Maintains open communication with co-workers and parents;
  • Participates actively and meaningfully in professional development opportunities and attend all required mandatory training;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the management team;

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • College diploma;
  • Registered Nurse license;
  • Valid standard First Aid and CPR;
  • Up to date medical and immunization record, including Covid-19 immunization;

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a day care or other working environment;
  • Experience working with children with special needs and/or challenging behaviours;

Key Competencies

  • Knowledge of many areas of health including mental health;
  • Knowledge of laws and policies;
  • Ability to deal with injuries or other accidents that may occur with young children;
  • Ability to assess situations and act quickly;
  • Ability to maintain appropriate standards of behaviour, mutual respect, and safety within classroom;
  • Understanding of family dynamics and sensitive to local culture and educational issues;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent spoken and written Arabic and English skills;
  • Computer skills;
  • Wonderful bedside manner;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
