WFP seeks candidates of the highest integrity and professionalism who share our humanitarian principles.

Selection of staff is made on a competitive basis, and we are committed to promoting diversity and gender balance.

Division: PPF – Private Partnerships and Fundraising Division

Duty Station: Rome, remote assignments can be considered

Type of Contract: full-time regular Consultant

Duration: 3-6 months

Deadline for applications: 16.10.2022

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency working to create a world with Zero Hunger. While hunger and malnutrition are the world’s largest solvable issues, the needs are still immense and growing 821 million people in the world suffer from chronic hunger. WFP and its partners believe that no-one should go to bed hungry and that individual and collective wellbeing can only be achieved if all children, women and men get the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, dignified lives. Each year, WFP works globally as an emergency responder, one that is often the first on the scene in the most difficult environments. WFP also works with partners to strengthen the resilience of communities most vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition through long-term development programmes aimed at boosting food security, local economies, education, employment and gender equality.

To contribute to a world with Zero Hunger, WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships to reach more people. The Private Partnerships and Fundraising Division (PPF) is responsible for engaging the private sector (corporations, individuals, foundations and philanthropists) through high-impact partnerships in support of WFP's strategic priorities, and through individual giving to build and retain support from the general public worldwide. Partnerships are both fundraising and technical in nature, with some bringing purely financial resources to the organization, whereas other bringing in-kind support, in the form of expertise and assets. PPF strives to mobilize funding, technical assistance, innovative solutions, visibility and awareness to help WFP fulfil its mission and operations. PPF also provides guidance to WFP Regional Bureaus (RBs), Country Offices (COs) and HQ Technical Units on partnership development, best practices, as well as compliance with rules and regulations for engaging with the private sector. Joining PPF is an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to co-develop and implement our new private partnerships and fundraising strategy.

PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

We are looking for a programme specialist with a talent for converting complex programme information into compelling content to be based in WFP Headquarters (Rome) to create high impact materials that will connect a high value audience to WFP’s work in the field, key for the establishment and growth of WFP’s Global Philanthropy pipeline at the $1M+ level. The position will be an integral part of the newly established Global Philanthropy team and will manage and optimize content to drive results with WFP’s portfolio of prospective global philanthropists across WFP markets globally. Growth from a new portfolio of UHNWI’s is essential, therefore this role will take the lead in partnership with the Head of Global Philanthropy in the identification and development of solution driven value propositions tailored to driving new business opportunities at the highest level and cultivation strategies within a selection of identified programmatic priorities.

The position is responsible for managing and coordinating aspects of pillar 2 of the Global Philanthropy Ultra High Net Worth Individual (UHNWI) engagement strategy, with a focus on creating an overarching portfolio of high level offers and a communication strategy for a UHNWI audience. This will include working in partnership with WFP’s Programme and Communications teams at the highest level.

This role will work closely with the High Value Individual Giving Team, Corporate Business Development function and the WFP Foundations Team to ensure alignment and cross team working is established to drive UHNWI prospecting and partnership development; developing content for UHNWI supporter journeys and uplift.

ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Development of high impact value propositions for the engagement of a UHNW philanthropic audience, for a set of high priority programmatic themes within the WFP Changing Lives narrative through a regional and global perspective. High value propositions will be created to be used globally by staff engaged in driving high value partnerships, fundraising and engagement with philanthropists and UHNWI’s.
  2. Liaise with both technical and field-based colleagues in the Programme Division around WFP, working closely with them from programmes’ identification to narrative development to ensure compelling cases for support are created at the $1M+ level, supporting the removal of any roadblocks where needed.
  3. Development of four accelerated propositions by the end of Q2 2022 in line with the priorities of identified philanthropic prospects globally, liaising closely with relationship managers in the team. This will require customization of the propositions based on potential partners’ focus areas, shared value and resources, and big picture thinking. This will also involve providing direct and strong engagement during co-creation with partners and actively participating in key meetings and forums.
  4. Support Global Philanthropy Managers on the development of impact assessments, reporting and communications, particularly for high value partnerships, ensuring accurate representation of achievements and progress.
  5. Work with other teams to leverage high level cultivation content, including events, conferences, forums, panels, and roundtables. Ensure WFP is positioned as the ”go-to” organization for partnerships with UHNWI’s. Collaborate with other areas across the organization to develop effective customized communication materials that speak to the motivations of a UHNWI audience, as well as materials to support senior leadership meetings to engage new partners.
  6. Support the Head of Global Philanthropy on the overall delivery of the UHNWI strategy and in particular pillar 2 of the strategy, focusing on developing a suite of compelling programmatic high value propositions and offers of engagement tailored for a sophisticated and well-connected UHNW audience, such as the establishment of a senior level external Advisory Committee and delivering toward WFP’s newly established crypto currency pilot.
  7. Provide training and specific capacity building initiatives to other PPF teams in line with set identified resource needs in the areas of proposals development and programme coordination.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

  1. Fast-track delivery and execution of at least 4 cases for support suited for a UHNW philanthropic audience in line with WFP development programmatic needs.
  2. Develop externally facing, impact driven and engaging content in line with WFP Global Philanthropy strategy and new business development which can be readily distributed and adopted for global prospects as related to major initiatives launched by WFP.
  3. Include a full package of materials needed but not limited to bespoke donor updates, reports, and other materials for solicitation of prospects.
  4. Collaborate and work hand in hand with the Programme and Communication units to gather all the information needed for the development of the Philanthropy cases for support.
