OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
To support all Member States in providing high-quality immunization services to achieve universal immunization coverage and contribute to the completion of polio eradication in the Region. Ultimately, Eradication of poliomyelitis, and destruction or appropriate containment of polioviruses in the Region.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The incumbent will perform the following duties to achieve the poliomyelitis eradication certification objectives:
1. Coordinate and collaborate with the Regional Certification Commission for Poliomyelitis Eradication (RCC) and serve in its secretariat along with Regional Focal Points (FP);
2. Manage the WHO/EMR Regional Poliomyelitis Eradication Certification by coordinating its key activities, and regularly evaluate the performance of NCCs and provide technical guidance and advice in the implementation of RCC recommendations;
3. Provide strategic direction and coordinate with all member states of the Region to ensure effective implementation of Polio Eradication Initiatives (PEI) linked to Poliomyelitis Eradication Certification;
4. Liaise with other WHO offices, including HQ, in the organization of training of NCCs and/or EPI Managers on certification of polio eradication;
5. Participate in other regional activities aimed at ensuring that all countries in the region attain Polio Eradication targets and milestones as articulated in the Polio Eradication and Endgame Strategic Plan 2013-2018, and thereby achieve requirements for the Region to be certified as free from wild and circulating vaccine -derived poliovirus (or: thereby maintain the Region polio-free);
6. Provide authoritative advice to RCC in further development of certification documents in line with eradication initiative (PEI) and evolving needs for the Poliomyelitis Eradication Certification, especially during post-certification phase of polio eradication.
7. Develop final documentation for the polio free certification for submission by RCC to the Global Certification Commission8.Prepare various technical reports related to the field of responsibility.

: University degree in Medicine or Biological Sciences and Master's Degree in Epidemiology or Public Health.

: At least seven years' experience combined at the national and international levels in epidemiology and Polio Eradication as well as control of other communicable diseases of public health importance

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 75,602 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2633 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
