JOB SUMMARY :

The Medical Photographer photographs medical and allied phenomena, managing all photographic techniques applicable to the biological field to provide illustration for scientific records, research, teaching, patient requests and publication. The incumbent creates and manages the photographer internship program. They also control, store and maintain patient photography, event/conference photography and other applicable photographic situations.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Manages the activities, resources and delivery of high quality photography taken during evidence-based and best practice medical procedures.
Plans, coordinates and manages the photography of patients, anatomical structures, pathological specimens, surgical techniques, diagnostic and therapeutic methods, family requested photographs, and other procedures. Utilizes color and black and white digital formats and all associated computers for digital photography output.
Manages the photography program to provide accurate advice to all physicians with any camera problems and issues. Ensures product support for cameras, equipment, and programs are completed in a timely manner.
Photographs all diagnostically challenging cases during clinics. Ensures that all photographs that will be used for didactic purposes in lectures, conferences, grand rounds and publications meet publication guidelines.
Uses Adobe Photoshop to adjust photographs to have proper color, resolution and brightness as well as other adjustments that might be necessary to meet publication and presentation specifications.
Creates and provides introductory instruction lessons to residents and fellows in proper techniques of surgical photography. Gives lectures to residents and fellows about specific photography techniques for taking surgical pictures dependent on the patient’s condition, ensuring that the surgery is photographed appropriately using the current camera equipment.
Photographs patients that are of academic interest and challenging diagnostics and treatments.
Uploads and downloads digital media; uses surgical background to name and record all diagnosis for cross-reference.
Scans the Kodachrome archives of physicians to form a digital archive to be used in teaching, lectures, presentations, publications and/or conferences. These images will be adjusted using Photoshop or Lightroom.
Ensures quality control over all patient photographs so that they are of scientifically acceptable quality and resolution. This duty requires multiple adjustments using a variety of photographic editing tools.
Maintains and updates the patient photography log for use by Division of Surgery physicians and is indexed using Sidra’s indexing standards.
Prepares patient medical records for retrieval and output format desired by the associated application or need.
Aids all surgery residents rotating through Sidra in organizing their Grand Rounds presentations of pediatric patients by providing photographical support using various media (CB, USB memory stick, or other media).
Provides entire photography support to all surgical physicians for publications, textbooks, and textbook chapters, national and international conferences.
Performs family requested and/or “end-of-life photography with professionalism and empathy. Records significant events at the request of the family. Properly stores the photographic media for later requests by parents/family.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Experience: 3+ years’ experience working as a professional photographer and experience working with computer archiving and photo editing systems

Job Specific Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of photo-editing software
Knowledge of Nikon camera equipment such as lenses, filters and manual camera settings
Previously demonstrated photography experience or class in Bereavement Photography
Knowledge of still-life photography
Knowledge of photographic lighting
Knowledge of photographic equipment that will aid in the best possible image capture
Previously demonstrated advanced level analytical, interpersonal, organizational, communications, and consensus-building skills
Previously demonstrated advanced level ability to operate with a high degree of independence in order to accomplish program objectives and safeguard confidential information
Previously demonstrated advanced level ability to work effectively in teams and achieve results collaboratively across programs and institutions
Prior experience of working in a cross-cultural environment
Previously demonstrated advanced level ability to multi-task in a results oriented environment
Experience in working with Microsoft Office products including word processing and presentation software
Flexibility in work hours as required
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Fluency in written and spoken English
