The UNESCO Jordan Office is implementing a number of projects targeting employment generation through the rehabilitation of Jordan cultural heritage sites through funding by the European Union, as part of the Madad Fund in response to the Syria Crisis.
Specifically, the project "Support to Livelihoods through Cultural Heritage Development" aims at improving self-reliance among Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians living in the governorates in the North of Jordan through access to immediate short-term decent job opportunities in the cultural heritage sector through employment intensive schemes. The project objective will be achieved through: a) on the short term, implementation of immediate measures that promote human dignity and social cohesion in preparation for longer term economic opportunities; b) on the longer term, provision of sustainable decent work opportunities and entrepreneurial activities within an enabling policy environment.
As the project targets the creation of decent job opportunities through the implementation of heritage conservation interventions at six heritage sites in the north of Jordan, a considerable component of field implementation which requires the related field management skills is involved.
Long Description
Under the overall authority of the Head of the UNESCO Jordan Office, and the direct supervision of the Project Officer in the Culture Unit, the incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
a) Support the operational implementation of the project, with particular focus on the coordination with the partners responsible for the implementation of activities at the different project sites;
b) Support the management of data related to Syrians and Jordanians employed as Cash for Work workers within the project, in line with the guidelines developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ); for Cash for Work activities through employment intensive techniques in Jordan; also, by attending Cash for Work and Common Cash Facilities and Cash for Work coordination group meetings;
c) Take part in regular field missions to the cultural heritage sites targeted by the project to monitor the contractors' activities; progress on the conservation and maintenance works in the sites; and usage and appropriate storage of the tools and materials acquired for the implementation of the project;
d) Provide administrative support to the activities and operational implementation by preparing solicitation documents, contracts and administrative documents as needed;

e) Support the Project’s team in the preparation of the project narrative progress reports, the final narrative report and the final project evaluation (identification of the evaluator, organization of evaluation interviews, etc.);
f) Provide support in the communication and visibility activities of the project in close coordination with the supervisor and the Communication and Visibility Officer;
g) Assist in preparing travel arrangements for external consultants and UNESCO experts including flight and hotel bookings, transportation, visa, travel authorization and any other requirements as needed; and in liaising with stakeholders and donor/partners in organizing appointments, workshops, seminars, field visits, and meetings related to the project, and attend as needed;
h) Support in preparing minutes and official correspondence in English and Arabic as well as support documentation and knowledge management for the activities as needed; and
i) Any other tasks as requested by the Head of the Office or that may be required to ensure the success of the project.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education

University Degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in a field of management and administration, social sciences, development studies or in a related field.
Work experience

Over five years of relevant professional experience in management and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams.

Project management skills;

Drive for results;

Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines;

Strong planning and organizational skills;

Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the Organization.

Excellent knowledge of standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
Languages

Excellent English and Arabic skills (both written and spoken) are required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Work experience

Proven experience in administration, finance, accounting or auditing in the public or private sector will be considered an asset;

Proven experience in coordination of Cash-for-Work activities in the cultural heritage sector will be considered an asset.
Competencies and skills

Familiarity with data management systems for Syrian refugees is considered an asset.
