The UNESCO Jordan Office works with the national authorities and people of Jordan to promote peace and sustainable development, through education, culture, sciences, communication and information.
In culture, the Office supports the implementation of UNESCO’s convention to protect and safeguard cultural and natural heritage as an end in itself, as well as a means to contribute to local livelihoods opportunities and sustainable tourism development. Through the project, the Office is leveraging cultural heritage for sustainable development and the creation of employment opportunities in Jordan through the application of Cash for Work schemes for basic rehabilitation and conservation. The project engages Syrian refugees, vulnerable Jordanians and Iraqi Internally Displaced Persons in the preservation and development of cultural heritage sites for tourism purposes at 6 cultural sites in the North of Jordan.
