RI is active in 16 countries around the world, including some of the most fragile: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, and Yemen. Often, RI is the only organization providing assistance to highly vulnerable communities.
Position Summary.
RI is seeking a motivated and dynamic person to lead communications and ensure visibility of RI’s programmes in Jordan. The Communication Officer will be responsible for:
- Leading the development of communications and visibility plans with program teams
- Producing success stories and profiles of RI’s programmes in Jordan
- Developing a strategy and content for RI social media platforms in close coordination with the Global communications focal point
- Leading on running RI events to showcase programme achievement
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Communications (90%)
- Develop project-based visibility plans that are in line with RI’s and donor’s guidelines and monitor the timely implementation
- Ensure branding of all project sites/activities is compliant with donor requirements
- Develop clear specifications with respect to procurement of branded material
- Develop annual communications strategies and work plans
- Ensure that the communication strategy is properly implemented and in alignment with the general guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Manage external consultants retained to produce communications materials (videos, photographs, graphic design, etc.), including submission of TORs and specifications to the procurement team, selection and quality control
- Act as focal point for RI’s Global Communications Officer
- Develop content and manage the communications on RI-Jordan's Facebook page and/or other online platforms while ensuring that the content and layout presents RI in the most professional and objective manner
- Write capacity statements and project summaries for external communication
- Write monthly success stories to be shared with donors and/or published on RI’s website
- Assist in creating other program communication materials as requested
- Develop press releases and other communication pieces for external audiences
- Lead the planning and coordination of events with external audiences, including coordination to prepare guest list, finalise programmes/agendas, issue press releases pre- and post-event and ensure appropriate visibly materials (banners, roll-ups) are available
- Support the Awards and Partnership Manager in the review and editing of reports to ensure high quality and donor-ready submissions
- Provide estimates to cost communications and visibility activities in new project proposals
Internal and External Coordination (10%)
- Participate actively in Inter-Departmental Meetings as scheduled, coming prepared to the meeting to maximize usefulness for project implementation;
- Proactively seek opportunities to enhance RI visibility based on regular coordination with program teams;
- Stay updated regarding relevant communications-related policy and procedures changes (internal – RI/ external – GOJ and/or donor) and communicate necessary updates to all relevant staff;
- Participate actively in Communication Focal Point meetings as scheduled by Global Communications Department.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
This position will require a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.
- Bachelors in communications, media or related field;
- 3+ years' experience working in the INGO/humanitarian field in the Middle East;
- Experience in communication, reporting, documentation, publication in relation to the INGO/humanitarian sector;
- Excellent written and spoken English skills with advanced proofreading and copyediting skills is a must;
- Strong organisational analytical and administrative skills, including a strong ability to focus on detail and quality assurance.
- Ability to work effectively with different teams in a positive and professional manner
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently;
- Ability to adapt to different cultures;
- Curious and eager to learn.
- Willingness to travel, sometimes at short notice, as required for the successful implementation of the role.
