JOB SUMMARY :
The Release of Information (ROI) Analyst is responsible for supporting the Healthcare Information Management (HIM) division, by managing all requests for release of patient information. The individual is responsible for preparing release of information applications forms, preparing duplicate medical records/ medical reports in response to patient requests and obtaining the necessary consent from the patient in accordance with rules and regulations of the facility.
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for coordinating all aspects of release of information.
- Screens and validates each incoming release of information request for requirements and verifies proper authorization.
- Assists walk-in requestors in filling out authorization for release of confidential medical information.
- Utilizes the EMR to enter external ROI requestor per hospital guidelines.
- Communicates with requestor regarding possible charges.
- Calculates invoices and determines whether payment is required, determines disposition of medical records.
- Applies established guidelines and policies governing the release of patient information.
- Contacts patients or their relatives in order to provide, obtain, and clarify information pertaining to requested medical reports, and directing to the relevant specialty clinic as requested.
- Liaises with other medical staff to ensure data and information is correct.
- Responds to verbal and written inquiries in a timely manner.
- Provides technical expertise in identifying potential issues pertaining to medical records.
- Discusses issues with the Manager – HIM before recommending solutions after obtaining and verifying information.
- Maintains the confidentially of all medical records.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
ESSENTIAL

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
Experience
2+ years’ experience in information management or in administration in a healthcare environment.
Experience in a large healthcare environment.
Certification and Licensure
RHIT
Professional Membership
AHIMA
