Designated owner of Shell in Egypt’s compliance with SI-related sections in the Social Performance Manual.
Develop and review annually the Shell in Egypt SI strategy, obtaining endorsement from SP Regional Lead, Shell in Egypt Head of Corporate Relations, and where applicable Shell in Egypt VP.
Ensure strong link to overall business strategy and alignment with Shell’s approach to Strategic Social Investment.
Drive and capture internal and external input into SI strategy and planning across all three budget streams (Cost-recoverable Welfare Fund of USD 5 million/a; Community Development with partners; and under the Shell in Egypt budget)
National benchmarking of SI of competitors and industry leaders.
Make sure best practice (programs and materials) from Shell in Egypt, Regional and Global teams are considered and where appropriate adapted for use in Shell in Egypt.
Ensure maximum Shell reputation benefits of the SI programs amongst internal and external stakeholders.
Manage (exit, grow, develop and improve) the mix of SI programs contributing to selected mix of SI programs contributing to selected areas and themes.
Implementation, Assurance and Reporting:
Manage existing programs and design new programs as per agreed SI strategy.
Ensure support from partners and key external and internal stakeholders, to create shared ownership for programs.
Cost-recoverable SI programs are to be endorsed, implemented, signed-off by relevant parties and financially and contractually well managed to ensure full cost recovery, if applicable.
Ensure safe implementation to specified quality standards throughout the contracting process and diligent implementation accordingly, also of high-risk local community sub-contractors.
Ensure adequate processing of (and compliance with) ABC, legal and contractual requirements.
Ensure definition, measurement and evaluation of both social impacts and Shell benefits in line with group requirements (KPIs, exit strategy etc.).
Measure progress and success of all programs as per defined KPIs, apply learnings and revise in accordance with internal and external feedback.
Act as Contract Holder for all SI programs, responsible for day-to-day contract management including scope definition, contract negotiation, sign-off on satisfactory progress and quality delivery, invoice reviews and payments.
Responsible for the budgets, contracts (total SI budget is approx. USD 500,000 per annum) and payments made in the implementation of SI programs and partnerships.
Reporting of Social Investment spend for Group Reporting, internal use or external stakeholder communication, as needed.
Partnership Management
Identify opportunities for partnerships with third parties that would be beneficial to the business and are credible to key stakeholders.
Development and leveraging of external partnerships and relationships with national/international agencies, multilaterals, NGOs and other relevant parties to ensure the quality and cost-effective delivery of social programs.
Manage partnerships such to create shared ownership – true partnering rather than
contractor mindset.
Responsible for strategic partnership management, meetings and performance reviews.
Proactive counsel and coordination to Shell senior leaders on external engagement programs and the way in which the company should position itself with respect to NGOs and stakeholders – considering policy and CR developments at all levels.
External Stakeholder Management
Develop and implement a process that proactively and on ongoing basis seeks input and feedback from key stakeholders – internal and external.
Apply a mindset of finding collaborative solutions.
Plan, arrange, lead and participate in meetings; ensure that the relevant minutes are in place, accurately recorded, shared, properly saved for easy access, and follow-up on all commitments made.
Apply the outcome and learnings of engagements.
Align with and feed into the Shell in Egypt Stakeholder Engagement Plan, messaging and
other stakeholder management processes.
Liaise with external stakeholders that are relevant to each program (e g sponsors relevant to each program (e.g. sponsors, partners, associates and, government agencies, training organizations, small businesses).
Relationship holder for partners equivalent representatives on SI.
Leverage individuals or entities to lead and/or support in engagements as appropriate, including senior management, or implementation partners.
Establish and maintain trust-based and personal relationships with key stakeholders including community leaders, local authorities, specific directorates and beneficiaries.
Interfaces, Informed Decision-making, Communication and Advocacy:
Pro-actively seek input, collaborate, align with and leverage interests and resources across relevant functions (CR, C&P, HSE, Security, HR-Learning etc.).
Interface and explore synergies with other Shell businesses and JV Partners in Shell in Egypt to understand their SI needs, leverage their capabilities and resources and identify two-way learning opportunities.
Work closely with SP Advisor to develop and review Shell in Egypt’s SP Plan.
Provide input into key ER deliverables e.g., Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Communication Plans and Shell in Egypt Reputation Plan.
Provide strategic advice to Country Chair and senior management to ensure informed decision-making on SP/SI.
Provide regular updates including risks and opportunities to ER Team, Regional SP Manager, functional leads and management, utilizing forums such as Shell in Egypt LT meetings.
Prepare legally sound and financially accurate responses on official letters and queries, as required.
Stay in contact and provide regular updates to SP MENA and when required, the Group SI Lead.
Participate and share best practice / learnings with SP CoEs, also sharing key learnings back to the – Shell in Egypt team. Active member in the Shell Global SI Network.
Owner of the drive to create Ambassadors for Shell in Shell in Egypt through SI, targeting internal staff and external stakeholders.
Communicate Shell’s capabilities, achievements, products/services, and thought leadership on SI to build preference with partners, customers and other stakeholders.
What we need from You
Track record of SI project management. Relevant SI experience in Oil & Gas is preferable but other sectors are also welcome.
Knowledge of external best practices and standards in SP (e.g. IFC, IPIECA, Equator Principles).
Strong project management and budget planning skills.
Demonstrable strategic thinking capability, focusing on long term priorities without neglecting the day-to-day activities and issues.
Proven problem-solving capability.
Understanding of how legislative and policy developments could impact business objectives at local, national, and global level and ability to develop strategies to manage or mitigate.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to engage and communicate effectively externally and internally at a variety of levels – including contributions in open forum with management or supporting the business in external forums.
Strong interpersonal skills to develop trust and credibility.
Good listening, facilitation, influencing and negotiating skills.
