Consultant Psychiatrist

Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic and maxillo-facial) to war wounded people and providing comprehensive health care. MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.
Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery Hospital in Amman is seeking to sign consultancy agreement with (1) Consultant Psychiatrist.
THE JOB
To collaborate with MSF medical staff on the integration of psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services to ensure the treatment of patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders with specific attention to the cultural context.
- Provide training and supervision to national and international medical staff (doctors and nurses) on diagnosis and treatment of severe and common mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines
- Participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision and support to national psychologists and counselors
- Ensure that guidelines and psychotropic medications from MSF standard drug list are available in the project
- Ensure that proper information on treatment and follow up are collected to monitor the provision of care.
- Evaluate in-country available psychiatric services including possibilities for psychiatric hospitalization and the quality of these services.
- Form a relationship with MoH and exploration of sustainability of psychiatric treatment.
- Establish collaboration/communication with medical specialties in the project to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
PROFILE
- Required Medical Degree, specialized in Psychiatry.
- Required, License from Jordanian MOH, Jordanian Psychiatrist Association.
- Essential at least (5) years of working experience as a psychiatrist.
- Desired, has similar experience with NGO’s.
- Essential, has experience in multicultural environment, and with war wounded patients.
- Required, hold TOT mhGAP certificate.
- Experience in training and supervision
- Fluent in both Arabic and English.
- Respect and commitment to MSF Policies/ and work time, and availability upon emergencies.
- Excellent communication, reporting, organization, and time management skills.
- English language communications.
- Teamwork, Flexibility, Commitment.
- Jordanian Nationality.
WORK LOCATION: Amman – Jordan
CONTRACT: 6 months service agreement renewable, with a range of (40 hours per month).
Probable start date: July 2023
