JOB TITLE: TIER 1 INSTRUCTOR – TECHNICAL

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a pro-active safety culture within all areas of TPO including classrooms, workshops and live plant training facility and all associated facilities, using resources in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ensure the safe and effective delivery of courses up to level 3
  • Plan, prepare and deliver training classes and materials in accordance with the curriculum, target competencies and quality standards
  • Make effective use of technology enhanced learning resources and promote blended learning through use of audio, video, e-resources, information and communication technologies to achieve lesson aims and to enhance the training centre’s reputation as the regions foremost training provider
  • Employ effective strategies, approaches and methodologies to motivate learners, encourage trainee autonomy, maintain discipline and promote a positive, business-like work ethic within a learner – centred environment
  • Closely monitor and give feedback to learners/line management/sponsors on trainee performance and to identify and act immediately to mitigate failure and resolve potential failure cases through planned remedial actions
  • Contribute to the evaluation, development and continuous improvement of technical courses within own discipline area, including teaching materials and related resources to meet trainee needs as expressed through feedback, client requests and ongoing needs analysis
  • Promote a positive behavioural culture within TPO
  • Train and assess learners to internationally accredited vocational training standards
  • Perform competency assessments to international recognized awarding body standards utilizing the live plant facility
  • Ensure effective teamwork with Client, Petrofac and TPO colleagues by sharing resources, information and ideas
  • Ensure curriculum is delivered on schedule and to client’s satisfaction and to international training standards
  • Manage learning to ensure equal opportunities and participation of all learners
  • Coach and support learners who may experience difficulties with the curriculum
  • Promote dialogue and involvement amongst all learners
  • Carry out effective administration duties related to training, e.g., trainee absence records, track trainee behaviour, development of course materials, invigilation of exams and assessments
  • Propose revisions to the curriculum and delivery methods for purpose of continuous improvement
  • Plan, Schedule and Conduct Quality Audits
  • Report and assist investigation of accidents and near misses
  • Perform Risk Assessments, Toolbox Talks and Safety Audits with trainees
  • Ensure own continuous professional development through participation in training and development activities
  • Work with trainees to identify issues and carry out routine maintenance requirements within area of delivery.
  • Keep regularly updated professionally with research-led best practice and constructively and professionally contribute to the continuing professional development activities of the training centre to ensure high standards of delivery are maintained and that Petrofac and TPO remains at the forefront of best practice in delivery of technician training within the industry
  • Follow appropriate policies and procedures governing the use of intellectual property and software
  • Ensure appropriate storage and corporate branding of in-house produced materials for shared access fully observing copyright laws
  • Provide clients with detailed student progress reports containing the assessment, level of competence, attendance and behaviours of the trainees
  • Carry out any further duties as directed by the management to ensure the efficient running of the department.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • NVQ Level 3 as a Technician/Operator (Oil and Gas) OR a recognized apprentice level qualification OR an HNC in a relevant area OR Diploma or higher relevant qualifications.
  • Formal teaching/training qualification
  • Recognized Assessor qualification
  • Recognized IQA qualification
  • Minimum L7 English Language
  • Information Technology – Use of PC Systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook) and appropriate keyboard skills
  • Extensive in-depth technical knowledge of skills in own field of operation
  • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods in a variety of settings
  • Ability to work as part of a Team or under own direction
  • Proactive approach to training and development of learners
  • Ability to effectively communicate with trainees of varying age, nationality and academic level
  • Positive self-image
  • Discipline and control behavior in line with expectations
  • Flexibility to work in an adaptable environment and overcome challenges
  • Cultural awareness.
  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on practical work experience in the production/maintenance Oil & Gas or related industry sector, as a technician or Supervisor
  • A minimum 5 years’ experience in delivering Oil and Gas related technician training courses, in a training institute setting.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in assessing competence based vocational training to international qualification standards
  • Demonstrable experience producing training material to high standards of quality, following international best practice
  • Experience of developing, coaching and mentoring new instructional and assessor staff.
