Brief description of WFP in Uganda

WFP delivers food assistance in emergencies and work with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP provides life-saving food assistance and livelihood opportunities to refugees in Uganda. In addition, WFP assists the most vulnerable people in Uganda with food and nutrition assistance. Finally, WFP works with smallholder farmers and links them to markets.

As Uganda strives to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030 and become a middle-income country by 2040, WFP is also assessing its relevance and repositioning its role in Uganda.

ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE?

We are seeking qualified individuals for the position of Business Support Assistant (Resilience Strategy) to be based in Kampala. Selected candidates will be employed on Special Service Agreement.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Country Offices (COs), Regional Bureaux (RBs), and Headquarters (HQ). Job holders typically provide administrative support to team(s) and/or support a specific business stream, and report to the relevant Associate. At this level, work is carried out under close supervision or immediately available assistance. Job holders are expected to produce organised and accurate work.

JOB PURPOSE

The Uganda Country Office is in process of developing a resilience strategy to provide guidance and coherence to activities the country and area offices develop along this thematic area. The UGCO is committed to supporting WFP’s transition from doer to enabler and the resilience strategy will clarify expectations around that objective as well as provide direction to units at CO and AO levels. This internship will provide administrative support for the various activities planned to develop and deliver the resilience strategy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the supervision of the Activity 3 manager the intern will support the following:

  • Working closely with SP&R staff and external consultants. support and coordinate consultative meetings and workshops with the WFP country office, area offices and external partners
  • Support documentation of meeting and workshop discussions including drafting minutes, and ensuring they are channeled to the appropriate staff for recordkeeping.
  • Support WFP and consultants with the development of plans, meeting agendas and other as needed.
  • Support external consultants to obtain documents for literature review
  • Prepare periodic progress updates
  • Any other duties or tasks required by supervisor

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, business administration or related field

Experience: Demonstrable energy and enthusiasm to work in a demanding environment

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience with Microsoft Office

Time management and critical thinking skills

Good organization and planning skills

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Languages: Fluency in oral and written English, including strong writing skills
