Job Description
This is a corporate accounting role which includes basic financial accounting and accounts payable duties. The Assistant Accountant responsibilities will include accounts payable management and some general ledger management. You will be reporting to the Finance Manager. Critical to success is an excellent understanding of core financial processes and the work required to ensure results reported are complete, accurate and timely. This work includes month-end co-ordination, cash & bank reconciliations, monitoring controls and costs, as well as recording and accurately accounting for annual turnover across corporate Retail Shops, Admissions, Webstore & the general stock.
Top Accountabilities:
• Reconciliation of cash to bank and preparation of the monthly bank reconciliation and analysis to be reviewed with the financial accountant.
• Daily reconciliations of all POS system transactions to till receipts & to the bank statements; control of all movements of cash in and out of the Guinness Storehouse and general stock cash office; liaise with departmental team leaders in the resolution of till/credit card/IT issues; continuous monitoring and review of cash control procedures.
• Support the financial analyst on the training of new users on the purchasing policy or system as required.
• Support the financial Analyst on key supplier statement reviews on a monthly basis.
• Manage the invoicing process for the business including daily and monthly batch invoicing ensuring accuracy with a right first time approach.
• Ensure customer statements are issued on a monthly basis and any queries from customers are followed up and resolved.
• Management of the debtors’ ledger including working with sales team to get prompt payment from Customers and managing to a low aged debt percentage on the ledger.
• Support the finance analyst on aged debtor monthly analysis.
• Support the CARM (internal Audit) and Compliance agenda including support on the annual CARM review preparation.
• Act as subject matter expert for your area on rolling out new technology platforms.
• Support on testing and implementation of new systems.
• Challenge existing ways of working and how new technology can improve these.
• Involvement in the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Staff expenses processing.
• Processing of accruals, prepayments and subsequent journals.
• Preparation and processing of month end reporting up to the trial balance stage.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
• Minimum Diploma or University Degree, with a major in Finance or Accounting.
• At least 2 years experience of working in Accounts Administration role in multi-disciplined environment.
• Studying towards CPA / CA or willingness to commence.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate computer software skills, including Excel {Vlook ups and pivot tables}.
• Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Thorough understanding of Cash handling and reconciliation, the accounts receivable process and the accounts payable process.
• Highly numerate strong analytical skills.
• Basic accounting skills as a minimum.
• Attention to detail, accuracy and customer delivery standards.
• Problem solving and decision making skills.
• Experience with using accounting ERP packages would be advantageous but not essential.
• Prioritization and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail {analytical and numerical}.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team.
• Good communication skills and effective at building relationships internally and externally.
