Summary
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Obtains health histories, conducts physical examinations, orders tests, and recommends procedures based on data obtained from interview and data review in accordance with approved protocols. Makes diagnostic decisions based on interpretation and evaluations of patient data, test results, and symptom description.
- Demonstrates collaborative multi-disciplinary partnerships working towards the achievements of constant improvement in quality patient care. Consults with collaborating physicians as needed regarding diagnostics and treatment options.
- Recommends patient plan of care that includes appropriate health education, medication, diagnostic tests, and follow up referrals.
- Consults as needed with members of healthcare team to include clinical support services such as Physical Therapy, Laboratory, Radiology, and Pharmacy. Acts as an organizational resource in area of specialty.
- Reviews patient progress and adjusts plan of care as indicated. Participates in department peer review, morbidity, and mortality review.
- Assures that documentation of visit is complete and reflects plan of care – updates the Problem List and Patient Teaching Records as appropriate. Documents all relevant information correctly, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
- Reviews, revises, and supports the development and implementation of patient education materials.
- Reviews evidence based practitioner protocols and collaborates with physicians to support the implementation of APN protocols that are appropriate to service specific practice. Evaluates effectiveness of interaction. Develops annual plan of activity to achieve outcomes using internal and external assessments to guide plan.
- Acts as an advocate for patients and families. Identifies ideas that will improve the quality of patient care and issues that will negatively affect patient care outcomes, using the professional practice framework.
- Participates through team working and collaborative partnerships in identifying and implementing solutions through evidence based practice or research to demonstrate improvements reflected in unit, divisional, organizational data, and bench marks.
- Contributes to the achievement of patient satisfaction. Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned. Contributes to special projects/assignments linked to nursing strategic priorities and professional practice model.
- Promotes a safe environment and safe patient care by embracing a safety culture and identifying areas of risk to supervisor. Complies with policies for personal and patient safety and for the prevention of healthcare associated infections.
- Contributes to the achievement of cost efficiency savings in assigned area. Maintains an awareness of resource utilization, exercising care in the ordering, and use of equipment and materials.
- Develops and sustains own knowledge, skills, and professional awareness and maintains a professional profile. Provides documented evidence of performance and maintenance of skills consistent with position.
- Leads and coordinates research activities and facilitates other specialists to be involved in research. Assists in promoting and sharing knowledge via mentorship in line with relevant research and evidence based practice. Seeks opportunities to provide formal education sessions through Nursing Development and Saudization or in the clinic setting.
- Supports the recruitment of staff to area and assists in developing competence and performance. Acts as a mentor for new staff as they develop competence.
- Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of all positions in assigned area against the primary purpose and strategic goals.
- Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
- Participates in self and other's education, training and development as applicable.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
Experience Required
Other Requirements(Certificates)
- Current Registered Nurse Licensure from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Licensure is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is required.
