The Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development (SIEED) has been established in Fall 2021 in the QU President Office to initiate, manage, execute, and/or coordinate developments of the President Office innovation and transformation cross-strategies and initiatives (e.g. Innovation & Entrepreneurship strategy, Digital Transformation Strategy, etc.) among other strategic innovation and transformation duties and functions. The SIEED Office is also particularly focused on design, management, and execution on the evolution of holistic and mature QU Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development Ecosystem across all QU sectors and emerging companies and ventures in integrated manner with the National Innovation & Economic Development ecosystem. This particular focus is in the process of realizing QU new vision aiming at positioning Qatar University as a .. Catalyst for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development of Qatar and is closely integrating with state transformation efforts into Innovation & Knowledge Based Economy (iKBE) as envisioned in Qatar National Vision 2030, the National Development Strategies, and Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) 2030 Strategy.
Duties & Responsibilities
1.Ensures the success of the University's commitment to supporting economic development by facilitating and ensuring maximization of QU ventures and business development out of QU assets and capabilities, as well as the attainment and access to Venture Capital Funds
2.Research and identify new QU ventures, companies, and business opportunities – including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services – or new ways of reaching existing markets
3.Lead, coordinate, and/or assist in business development of emerging QU ventures, startups, and companies
4.Lead marketing and strategic liaison and networking efforts externally relevant to business development and venture capital funds
5.Lead the design and implementation of innovative QU Venture Capital Funds and Angle Investors models and streams in strategic alliance with national, regional, and international VC and investment entities
6.Work with venture partners and associates as their point if liaison and strategic partnerships
7.Lead efforts to assist startups and commercialization teams for attainment of VC funds from a variety of channels and streams
8.Research trends, opportunities, innovative and niche areas of VC, investments, digital, and crowdsourcing models for Venture Capital funds development and attainment
9.Create and maintain networks and inventory of VC and investment funds for QU startups and commercialization teams
10.Conduct business development and venture capital counseling meetings on an individual basis with QU teams, startups, academics, tenants and clients
11.Assist in development and delivery of relevant curricular components and digital learning modules for integration in QU education ecosystem
12.Supervise or co-supervise graduate theses conducting research on Venture Capital Funds, Angle Investors, and other startups funds streams
13.Assist in developing relevant research proposals relevant to Innovation, entrepreneurship, Venture Capital, and economic development ecosystem acceleration internally in QU or externally on the national ecosystem
14.Develop reports, research papers and presentations in relevant to areas of scope of duties
15.Lead or help in organization of relevant national and international VC, innovation and entrepreneurship events in collaboration with other office members and key stakeholders internally and externally
16.Any other duties as assigned by direct line manager.
