Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision by the Head of Programme in Galkayo Area Office and the overall supervision of the Head of Area Office, the nutrition programme officer will be responsible of the below tasks;
• Engage with UNICEF, Ministry of Health at Regional and Galmudug State Level and the nutrition cluster to map out the nutrition needs, coverage gaps and possible assistance packages.
• Lead on the roll out of the joint UNICEF – WFP micro plans to improve the coordination and integration of acute malnutrition treatment programmes improving coverage, outreach, effectiveness, and programme quality.
• Support the coordination of nutrition pipeline management, including NFIs and nutrition commodities in close coordination with the Programme and Logistic Unit.
• Coordinate the WFP related reporting in respect of timelines, including weekly adhoc reports from cooperating partners, ONA- MODA reports submission by the Cooperating Partners (CPs).
• Organize rapid assessments in locations reported by different stakeholders to be in nutrition coverage gaps and propose immediate response with implementation plans.
• Organize regular coordination meetings with CPs to strengthen their capacity and ensure a coordinated emergency response including UNICEF implementing health and nutrition partners.
• Coordinate the referral mechanism and linkages between other WFP supported programmes and nutrition, identify the required resources for a better implementation of the referrals and share with the management for provision, and ensure their good management once procured.
• Provide operational oversight and technical support and guidance to the nutrition staff to ensure efficient and effective nutrition response.
• Build capacity of the nutrition staff, supporting individual work planning, mentoring, and coaching as required to enhance performance.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Advanced University degree in Nutrition and/or Public health, Food systems and transformation, social sciences, and other related studies, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Experience: At least 4 years in nutrition related programmes implementation, public health, preferably in humanitarian context, with international NGOs, United Nations system, or with the governmental institutions with leadership role in terms of emergency nutrition coordination.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somalia language is a requirement.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Has foundational knowledge of nutrition, needs assessment in crisis, treatment, and prevention of malnutrition in emergency contexts.
- Willingness to work in hard conditions, including working in late hours, weekends, and other extra time due to emergency.
- Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
