Communications Manager, USAID Jordan Makanati
Position Description
EnCompass LLC seeks Communications Manager candidates for a five-year, Makanati | USAID Women Economic Empowerment and Leadership Activity in Jordan. The purpose of Makanati is to contribute to increasing women’s access to waged employment and leadership opportunities in Jordan by improving women’s access to the job market, addressing inequalities and prohibitive social norms and traditions, and enhancing the workforce enabling environment.
The Communications Manager will work with the Makanati team, leading the day-to-day communications activities, including developing and implementing a communications strategy that effectively describes the objectives, activities, and accomplishments of the Activity to all stakeholders. S/he will be responsible for fostering and maintaining favorable relationships with media, editors, reporters, communication heads of other USAID and donor projects, relevant USAID Offices, GoJ partners, community leaders, and stakeholder organizations. The Communications Manager will be responsible for supporting, creating, designing, and disseminating Makanati’s communication materials and content; promoting events; creating reports; and sharing achievements on all platforms including social media. S/he will ensure compliance with USAID marking and branding policies in all project activities including those implemented by Makanati’s local and international partners.
This position will be full-time staff and based in Amman, Jordan.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Essential functions:
- Devise and implement the overall communications plan, including media campaign strategies for Makanati activities, working closely with the component leads and in line with partner work plans.
- Develop a branding and marking plan for Makanati, and ensure formatting, layout, and development of graphical elements are in accordance with USAID requirements, specifically for Marking and Branding of USAID-funded projects, and USAID DOCs office approval is sought and granted for all branded material.
- Collaborate with and support the Activity’s staff in information sharing, identifying and generating success stories and communication opportunities to illustrate project activities and accomplishments.
- Liaise with internal teams/partners and external agencies providing technical content and design solutions for communications materials and presentations.
- Lead in preparing internal and external communications and presentations, including a variety of promotional and informational materials, such as articles, bulletins, pictorial reports, postcards, media coverage reports, fact sheets, success stories, and other related materials.
- Develop and disseminate communication materials (e.g., weekly, quarterly, and annual reports, newsletters, brochures, flyers, case studies, success stories, documentaries), ensuring all communications products and strategies are in compliance with USAID regulations.
- Align communications materials with Makanati’s objectives on women employment, labor market priorities, economic sectors, gender equality, economic and community engagement, gender-based violence, youth labor participation and employment and community mobilization. Investigate program information to support developing communications activity and social media outreach.
- Provide leadership and supervision of the Event Planning Coordinator to organize and oversee project-related special events and outreach activities, including developing messages to help publicize and promote these activities.
- Analyze, develop, and articulate media policies, and manage communications and media budgets.
- Establish and maintain contact and working relationships with journalists and relevant actors from print and broadcast media, both local and national, and proactively pitch story ideas on a local and national level, seeking out media opportunities for promoting Makanati’s messaging and campaigning platform.
- Design and facilitate trainings related to communications and messaging of Makanati initiatives, including providing advisory support and capacity building to local partners and staff to ensure effective implementation of communication initiatives are in accordance with USAID standards.
- Manage procurement of quality communications products and services according to USAID/ EnCompass policies to optimize value for money and develop a diverse list of quality vendors for the project.
- Participate as a member of the senior project management team, contribute to long-term and short-term work planning, and help foster/promote a collaborate and positive working environment.
- Track and report on the results of communications activities.
- Represent Makanati as and when requested by the COP.
- Any other task assigned by COP.

Qualifications
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Related Field, Masters preferred
- Citizen or permanent resident of Jordan
Experience and Skills
- A minimum of six to eight (6-8) years of experience in communications and design experience (This includes the designing layouts of Makanati's documents materials, and presentations)
- Work with managers and trainers on maintaining training materials such as PowerPoints, participant handouts, manuals, and other instructional materials to ensure they are current
- Strong social media content development skills and experience
- Practical experience in planning and implementing national and local awareness campaigns including the development of creative content and materials
- Significant experience in designing and facilitating interactive meetings, workshops and capacity building trainings preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication and creative skills and creative ability across a range of platforms
- Knowledge and experience in using principles, theories, and methods of communications for advocacy and awareness building
- Experience in issues relating to women’s empowerment, economic engagement, youth, and leadership issues a plus
- Articulate professionally and communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff
- Prior experience working on USAID-funded programs required
- Superior skills in English, both written and verbal, required. Fluency in Arabic, required
