Position Summary

The Department of Environmental and Public Health in the College of Health Sciences (CoHS) at Abu Dhabi University (ADU) invites applicants for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher in its undergraduate Public Health program, beginning January 2023. The Department is seeking highly qualified and motivated full-time faculty members who are committed to teaching, research, program development, academic advising, and institutional and community service. Candidates working in the different areas of epidemiology and public health are welcome to apply.

About Abu Dhabi University

Established in 2003, ADU is the largest private multi-campus university in U.A.E. and currently ranks third globally for international faculty. It is among the top eight universities in U.A.E. and top 651-700 universities globally, as per the 2022 QS World University Rankings. The CoHS offers B.Sc. in Environmental Health and Safety, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences-Laboratory Medicine, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Molecular and Medical Genetics. There are opportunities for multidisciplinary inter-college collaborative research across ADU, and inter-institutional research collaborations in the Abu Dhabi area and U.A.E.

Description of the Position

The position is opened for the Spring 2022-2023 semester. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. There are a variety of public health topics with potential teaching opportunities. Courses include introduction to Public Health, fundamental determinants of public health, epidemiology and population health, principles and practice of health promotion and biostatistics. The teaching load typically includes up to 12 credit hours per academic semester in Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain campuses, which may vary depending on involvement in other academic activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Teach undergraduate courses in related field of specialization in the Bachelor of Public Health program
Engage with a diverse student body comprised of a variety of ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, and academic preparation
Advise and mentor students in academic development and achievement; in applied practical experience, and in integral learning experience
Oversee graduating students’ projects and provide guidance
Assist with curriculum development, program assessment, community engagement and involvement with professional societies through services
Establish and maintain a record of scholarship through independent and/or collaborative research, extramural funding and publication
Undertake other duties considering departmental needs and priorities

Knowledge, skills, abilities:

Commitment to high quality instruction in a student-centered environment
Ability to cultivate an inclusive learning environment that support students with various learning styles and diverse backgrounds
Experience using the Blackboard learning management system (preferred), Microsoft Teams, and instructional technology

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

A doctoral degree from an internationally accredited university (preferably from top 200 Universities as per the QS World University Rankings 2022) in the public health field or a related field such as epidemiology, biostatistics, health education, health behavior, health services, health economics, and allied health sciences
Prior teaching experience in public health
Prior experience in advising and mentoring senior undergraduate students
Ability to articulate research agenda and demonstrate expertise in advance analytical methods in research areas of public health
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
Significant research potential and accomplishment demonstrated by a record of peer-reviewed publications, as judged by their h-index (10 for Assistant Professor, 15 for Associate Professor, and 25 for Professor)

Preferred Qualifications include:

Candidates with qualifications to teach in more than one area or program will be given priority
Ability to attract grant funding
