SENIOR SAFETY TECHNICIAN (MAINTENANCE)
Job Description
Purpose of Job:
- To ensure the provision of maintenance of mobile/portable safety equipment at the assigned area. Test and calibrates safety equipment. Responsible for the preventive maintenance programme. Maintains a detailed computerized record keeping system.
Duties and responsibilities
- Undertakes scheduled inspection of all assigned installations and equipment inclusive of social facilities, accommodations, and workshops and check the conditions of portable safety equipment installed.
- Prepares written reports on inspections, findings, recommendations and submits to location supervisor and Safety Officer for implementation of remedial action. Attempts to correct situation on site when possible by organizing / undertaking minor repairs, replacing of equipment and the like. Monitors situation to satisfactory conclusion.
- Maintains detailed records of equipment received/dispatched to and from suppliers/sites together with stock held. Participates in annual inventory and accounts for any discrepancy found.
- Assists in the preparations and conducting of training and safety lectures by arranging of equipment.
- Undertakes maintenance of all mobile/portable safety equipment. Checks work undertaken by subordinates and ensures maintenance of work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Undertakes maintenance of gas detection equipment by personally making repairs, testing and calibrating.
- Undertakes maintenance of various types of Breathing Apparatus, including repairs.
- Prepares material issue vouchers, materials requisitions for spare parts and other materials required.
- Operates a personal computer which provides equipment maintenance reports, inspection check lists, spare parts check lists, equipment movement check lists etc.
- Carries out other similar or related duties such as:
- a. Refilling of Breathing Apparatus cylinders and arranging for cylinder hydro testing.
- b. Testing compressor breathing air quality and replacing filters when due.
- c. Providing back-up support to both safety sections in the event of an emergency or shortage of manpower.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completed Secondary School Education (12 years)
- Completed level 6 English proficiency
- Attended 2 years training in technical discipline
- Attended safety management course
- Must possess a first – aid certificate.
- Recognized Safety Courses (NEBOSH) or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years related experience, preferably in a petrochemical environment and including approximately one year within the corporation for familiarization.
