SENIOR SAFETY TECHNICIAN (INSPECTION)
Job Description
Purpose of Job:
- Participates in the implementation of the safety management programme. Provides a monitoring function in the assigned area and ensures that safe working practices are being applied and maintained.
Duties and responsibilities
- Visits all facilities and locations in the assigned area in accordance with an established schedule to check plant safety equipment and to undertake a general assessment of conditions observed.
- Prepares written inspection reports and submits to Safety Officer so that remedial action may be implemented. When necessary, urges personnel responsible for the location to take immediate action to minimize the likelihood of accidents.
- Monitors gas tests, (operations staff) and when necessary, carries out tests independently to ensure safety of plant and personnel. Interprets results and recommends safe course of action.
- Carries out initial independent accident investigations. Prepares written reports to Safety Officer and liaises with the location supervisor. In the event of a serious accident secures the area until the arrival of the investigation team.
- Assists in maintaining safety equipment, (such as changing out H2S sensor cells, batteries on gas detectors, checking B.A sets) and maintains records appertaining to such equipment (such as movement, maintenance and stock levels) so that stock is maintained in good condition.
- Monitors the Permit to Work System. Ensures that safe working practices are being followed such as reporting to location supervisor and Safety officer when violations occur. Familiarizes himself daily with work permits issued for his assigned area.
- Participates in location safety meetings and keeps the Safety Officer informed on the issues raised.
- Provides on-site advice on maintenance and construction activities. On critical jobs such as vessel entry and hot work, provides safety standby coverage utilizing the necessary safety equipment to ensure the safety of plant and personnel.
- Assists in providing First Aid to accident victims.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completed Secondary School Education (12 years)
- Completed level 6 English proficiency
- Attended 2 years training in technical discipline
- Attended safety management course
- Must possess a first – aid certificate.
Minimum Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years related experience, preferably in a petrochemical environment and including approximately one year within the corporation for familiarization.
- Should be Holder of a Light Vehicle Driving License issued by Qatar Traffic dept. Defensive Driving training/course attendance to be provided.
