KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Under the direct supervision of Deputy Country Director and the overall supervision of Country Director, the incumbent will perform as Head of WFP Operation covering southern Shan. The incumbent will take accountabilities of the following duties and responsibilities.
- Effectively manage WFP response to ensure the continued development of a cohesive and high performing team.
- Plan and manage WFP response within the area of assignment to ensure effective and efficient delivery of food and nutrition assistance and that daily operational issues are timely resolved to prevent losses or delays.
- Ensure that allocated resources are used efficiently and are in line with agreed plans, and any deviations are reported to DCD.
- Conduct timely monitoring and evaluation of activities and prepare accurate and comprehensive reports on WFP’s operations and performance with regular and timely submission for Country Office relevant units review to inform efficient operational planning and decisions.
- Build effective and collaborative relations with the state and local authorities and contribute to the expertise sharing and capacity building for effective preparedness and response to food assistance needs.
- Build partnerships to improve assistance packages, develop and sustain liaison with local authorities, civil societies, beneficiaries and other partners.
- Build capacity of WFP staff, partners and local authorities to prepare for and respond to food assistance needs.
- Ensure extensive and frequent monitoring presence at project areas, distribution sites and centres.
- Collaborate closely with security colleagues to reinforce the safety and security of WFP staff and operation to ensure that WFP security and safety standards are locally set and followed.
- Ensure effective coordination with inter-agency and other humanitarian actors operational in southern Shan to cover food security related matters.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Language
International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.
National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
• Has gained experience in implementing technical programs (i.e. nutrition, etc.).
• Has implemented programmes and provided input into designing operations.
• Has provided input into policy discussions and decisions.
