Your day to day responsibilities will be extremely varied and diverse, however your primary focus areas will include the following:
PROJECT DELIVERY
- As part of the project team, become familiar with the input on design competitions and bids.
- With guidance, contribute to the design, analysis and consultancy on a wide variety of projects.
- Produce reports, presentations, models, and drawings as requested by the client to an excellent standard, high level of accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Ensure all work completed is reviewed appropriately prior to it being issued.
- Learn to work within an agreed budget, raising and/or resolving any concerns if they arise.
- Take personal responsibility for the completion of accurate time sheets.
- Ensure senior staff are kept informed of important and relevant service/design decisions.
LEADERSHIP
- Take timely and considered decisions, including corrective action, as necessary.
- Create a passion/enthusiasm for delivering excellent performance in all areas of your role.
COLLABORATION
- Work as part of a single or multi-disciplinary team attending meetings with architects, planners, contractors, government agencies etc. in a learning advisory capacity.
- Actively engages with team colleagues on work assignments and enjoys working with others to see the value of learning and sharing knowledge with them.
- Gain an awareness of the Buro Happold brand and the different groups and services in the firm
TECHNICAL COMPETENCE
- Be familiar with and comply with all Buro Happold’s internal quality assurance procedures.
- Investigate solutions to challenges, being able to articulate and document the benefits and shortfalls of each.
- In conjunction with your line manager, supervisor or mentor; take responsibility for your own learning and development, leading to submission for Professional Accreditation and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Has built upon academic learning and under guidance applies it into practical engineering situations
- Have an understanding of how technology can assist with projects, embracing the latest technologies helping to improve performance and sustainability.
- Embrace learning new digital platforms in computational engineering like Grasshopper and Rhino
- Undertake detailed structural engineering design and prepare technical schedules.
- Plan and manage CAD documentation of design work
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree level education in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Experience of, or ability to apply, academic learning to work projects
- Strong team player capability
- Effective communication capability with the ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas clearly and concisely
- Understanding of relevant policy and regulation
- Passionate about creating innovative, elegant, and robust structural engineering solutions for complex construction projects, supported by work experience or an internship ideally spent in an engineering environment
- Have a basic understanding of computational design in structural engineering and have the drive to learn
