CONTEXT

Oxfam-Québec is implementing the Voluntary Cooperation Program (VPC) entitled “Equality in Action” working in close collaboration with Oxfam teams in the countries of intervention. This program will take place over a period of seven years (2020 to 2027) in about ten countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.

The VCP aims to increase the performance of local partner organizations in developing countries in implementing inclusive, innovative, and sustainable development initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam’s role is to support civil society organizations (CSOs) working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people to claim and exercise their rights. The knowledge, capacity and expertise of the qualified volunteers will be leveraged through short and long-term assignments with local partner organizations.

The VCP will be articulated within Oxfam's Country Strategy while ensuring compliance with Oxfam-Québec's contractual agreements with its donors.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

In close collaboration with the Oxfam team members in the country of intervention, the Communication Advisor will be responsible to:

Generate high quality communications material (written content, videos, photos) to showcase the work of Oxfam and Oxfam partners for different audiences (internal, public, partners etc.).
Design visibility materials for Oxfam programs and projects and partners as required.
Produce content for social media and draft social media posts for Partners and Oxfam in Jordan office.
Provide training and support to Oxfam volunteers, partners and staff on key elements of communications according to identified needs.
Write testimonials, scripts to accompany volunteers’ profiles and audiovisual materials.
Support Oxfam in Jordan and partners media outreach.
Follow the office’s procedures and standards regarding archiving and safeguarding and ensuring that all productions are in line with Oxfam’s policy.
Share and embody Oxfam's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for any behaviour that violates the code of conduct, including sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse, intimidation, lack of integrity, corruption and fraud;
Participate in development efforts in Canada during and after the mandate by contributing to the dissemination of the program, projects, partners, etc. through testimonials, life stories, photos, quotes, etc.

REQUIREMENTS

Have Canadian citizenship
Collegial certificate or Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related field.
3-5 years of relevant experience in a communication role.
Proficiency in photo/video production and editing and related software.
Ability to produce compelling stories in written and visual formats.
Solid experience with social media and social media analytics. Proficiency in social media publishing software
Knowledge on gender mainstreaming and principles.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
Effective and inclusive communication.
Proven ability to cross and bridge cultural, racial and gender divides.
Professional proficiency in English (mandatory) and Arabic (essential).
Mastery of the Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and Skype, MS-TEAMS and Zoom
Experience working in Jordan or the MENA region (an asset). Knowledge of Jordan’s or the MENA region’s countries’ culture and contexts (desirable).
Experience in international development (an asset).
Adherence to the mission and values of Oxfam, including the promotion of equality between women and men.
