BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The WFP 2022-2025 Strategic Plan makes nutrition a key strategic and crosscutting priority. It emphasizes the centrality of working in partnership to eliminate all forms of malnutrition, particularly in contexts of high burden or high risk. It aligns WFP’s framework with the 2030 Agenda, focusing on ending hunger and on contributing to a revitalized global partnership to achieve this.
The WFP Nutrition Policy approved by the Executive Board in 2017 provides a guiding framework to support governments in making advances in the reduction of malnutrition. The policy puts governments at the heart of its agenda, while reaffirming the pivotal role WFP plays in its partnerships, through its global and regional reach and strong country presence. It renews its commitment to strong partnerships to achieve better results in the fight against all forms of malnutrition. During the period 2022-2025, WFP will continue to engage with policy making platforms for greater nutrition impact and foster synergies with actors that have complementary mandates, skills, and resources. It will continue to position itself as a key player and partner in nutrition during 2022 which is the African Union theme year on nutrition, and beyond.
The Partnership Consultant will work closely with the Chief of Multilateral Partnerships and Innovative Financing and the Partnerships Lead to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new alliances, particularly linked to the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement, UN Nutrition, and the Food Systems Summit.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the partnership with the Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) Movement

- Track developments across the SUN Movement and help ensure coherent WFP engagement across different entry points (UN Nutrition, SUN Business Network, Lead Group, ExCom, etc.)
- Provide support towards operationalization of the SUN 3.0 strategy.
- Provide support towards the organization of SUN ExCom meetings and retreats.
- Prepare briefs, background documents, letters for the WFP Executive Director (ED), as a SUN Lead Group representative and for the WFP representative on the SUN Executive Committee.
- Support COs with activities related to the SUN movement at national level
- Support WFPs partnership with UN Nutrition.

- Follow UN Nutrition plans and communications and liaise with the UN Nutrition secretariat to help ensure WFP fulfils its responsibilities to UN Nutrition in a timely manner.
- Support the Nutrition Director in her role as a UN Nutrition Steering Committee member.
- Support WFP contributions to the long-term UN Nutrition strategy and action plans.
- Represent WFP in relevant UN Nutrition technical working groups.
- Support COs with activities related to UN nutrition, as relevant
- Support CFS-related activities and other inter-agency efforts, including through RBAs collaboration.

- Provide support to the CFS policy agenda through a nutrition lens, in collaboration with the WFP lead unit, as needed.
- Support the organization of plenaries as well as side-events at CFS, including ED speaking roles.
- Provide inputs and support to the development and operationalization of the CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition, and other CFS policy processes and products.
- Provide support the organization of potential, additional CFS activities, as required
- Support WFPs involvement in the Nutrition for Growth Summit (N4G).

- Support COs in their efforts to follow up on government 2021 commitments, in collaboration with the N4G outreach group.
- Support implementation and reporting on WFP’s 2021 N4G commitments, as required.
- Support follow up activities on the N4G resilience agenda together with partners.
- Support policy positioning and preparations for the 2024 N4G Summit together with partners.
- Contribute to establish and leverage synergies between the N4G and the Food Systems Summits
- Support WFPs involvement in the Food Systems Summit and relevant coalitions
- Support WFP’s involvement in the Healthy Diets Coalition, as needed.
- Support WFP’s preparations to engage with the 2023 Food Systems Summit follow up event.
- Liaise with other units at WFP to ensure the adequate positioning of nutrition in the summit.
- Support WFPs strategic engagement with the African Union on nutrition
- In collaboration with STR and School feeling, leverage the African Union theme year on nutrition 2022, through strategic advocacy, partnerships and the organization of side events.
- Expand and support other platforms, partnerships and key events
- Provide support to strategic partnerships including EAT, IFNA and Global Panel.
- Liaise with advocacy coalitions such as the GNC advocacy group and the SDG2 advocacy hub
- Support WFP engagement in key intergovernmental processes and events, such as COP 27.
- Perform any other relevant duties as requested by the Partnerships Team Lead and Nutrition Deputy Director
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Master’s degree in Public Health and/or Nutrition or an equivalent
Experience:
Nutrition, Partnerships and working with other UN Agencies and Inter-Agency platforms at global level. Field experience in areas related to nutrition.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong knowledge in nutrition coordination, partnerships, building strategic alliances, policy processes and monitoring and evaluation
Language:
- Fluency in English required
- Working knowledge of another UN language – French or Spanish – is an asset
