JOB PURPOSE
To maintain the competitive advantage WFP has with regards to humanitarian activities, the Research & Development (RD) business unit manages a portfolio of innovative projects within Supply Chain Operations division. As such, a digital transformation project manager consultancy position is open to effectively monitor the progress of these projects. The Digital Transformation Project Manager is responsible for delivering successful outcomes for key business transformation projects via effective and pragmatic project management. Projects managed by this role will be significant in scale and business impact. The responsibilities linked to the position will be performed remotely.
The Project Manager (PM) has the responsibility to ensure the effective and efficient day to day implementation of the project under the overall guidance and supervision of the Chief RD. The PM will ensure the functioning of the project from beginning to the end including project inception activities, annual and quarterly planning and reporting, and implementation of project activities, project reviews and project closure.
The consultancy will be for an initial period of six months with possible extension.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief RD, the Project Manager will be responsible for the following key duties:
- Plan interactive projects in support of the client goals respecting constraints such as time, cost and quality standards;
- Prepare and update project work plans and project progress reports;
- Ensure that all team members are managing the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of all assigned projects, across multiple clients;
- Efficiently and competently manage problems — when things go off plan, bring them back on plan or create a new plan with the assistance of key-stakeholders;
- Provide technical advice to project recipients/stakeholders, review technical reports and monitor technical activities carried out by responsible parties;
- Work directly with Digital Strategist and the Chief to deliver accurate and detailed Proposals, Estimates and annual interactive budgets;
- Assumes direct responsibility for managing the project budget by ensuring that:
- project funds are disbursed properly;
- expenditure is in accordance with the project document and project work plans;
- accounting records and supporting documents are properly kept and financial reports are prepared;
- financial operations are transparent and financial procedures/regulations are properly applied; and
- Remains on the forefront of emerging industry practices;
- Pursues excellence in all aspects of our business;
- Motivates project team to work together in the most efficient manner;
- Supervises staff and local or international short-term consultants working on the project;
- Other related duties as assigned.
STANDARD MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
You have:
- An University degree (preferably post-graduate degree) with knowledge in quality and environmental management, Business Management and project management or related fields.
Experience
You have:
- At least 8 years of extensive experience in project management, planning and implementation or similar fields. Experience in lean management processes are considered a plus.
Knowledge & skills
Language
- You are fluent in oral and written English;
- Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong analytical skills, oral and written communication and team building skills;
- Proven ability to proactively approach problem solving and generate ideas for optimal team outcomes;
- Ability to anticipate work expectations, multi-task and work independently to meet deadlines.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
- A detailed roadmap and project workplans for each project managed;
- Regular project budget status reports;
- Process flowcharts after re-engineering.
