Summary
Performspreventative therapy related to dental hygiene upon the periodontist's directions.Performs scaling, root planning, and polishing of teeth. Provides patienteducation on good oral hygiene practice.Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Experience Required
Prepares Dental operatory. Sets up for each procedureusing aseptic techniques. Maintains high level of infection contro before, during and after procedures. Prevents cross infection and contamination.Reviews medical records for health status. Ensures patients requiring premed and/or labwork are properly prepared. Ensures patients Health History is updated annually.Responsible for monitoring daily schedule. Ensures patient flow is maintained.Evaluates patient dentition in a preliminary screening. Examines gingival tissues. Performs oral cancer screening.Documents clinical findings,plaque scores,dental histories,treatment rendered and conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.Instructs patients on proper dental care and diet for good oral health.Preparation and administration of topical anesthetic gel and local anesthetic injections necessary for hygiene treatment. Performs supra and subgingival scaling including comprehensive root debridement.Preparation and administration of topical antibiotic agents in deep periodontal pockets after root planning as prescribed by Periodontist.Applies topical fluoride and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay. Applies sealants to teeth for pit and fissure correction and/or prevention.Participates in hospital wide health education activities to create awareness,improve and maintain oral health of general public.Maintains instruments and stock levels of supplies in operatory. Maintains daily & weekly maintenance of equipment and handpieces.Enters clinical and statistical data into the computer as required.Takes intra-oral diagnostic x-rays as ordered by Dentist. Develops and mounts exposed x-rays for professional review. Retrieves and files dental x-ray files.Participates in training and precepting of new dental hygienist,interns and trainees.Provides an annual educational inservice activity for Dental Clinic staff. Provides educational activities to other hospital staff as required.Rotation to CCC may be necessary.Participates in hospital wide performance improvement activities.Follows all hospital related policies and procedures.Participates in self and others education,training and development,as applicable.Performs other related duties as assigned.Other Requirements(Certificates)
Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene required.
