Job Description
Qualifications
- University degree, advanced degree preferred
- 4+ years of experience in communications, external relations, or marketing in a professional services firm (e.g., leading consulting, investment bank, accounting, or law firm) or in a leading GEM company
- Experience in strategically applying full range of marketing/communications channels, including digital channels (e.g., web, events, traditional media/analyst relations, social media) ability to demonstrate measurable business impact from marketing and communications activities
- Working knowledge of one or more of the energy/materials industries or the ability to come up this learning curve quickly and gain credibility
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to quickly grasp range of complex issues, see a problem from multiple sides, work through the issues in a logical and rigorous way, and find creative-yet-practical solutions with a sustainability lens
- Self-motivation, with an appetite for working in a low-structure environment high comfort level with uncertainty and creativity
- Unfailing adherence to the highest professional standards, professional values, and a commitment to inclusive, supportive, and respectful work environments ability to work in cross-industry global team(s), willing to collaborate with team members from different backgrounds
- Collaborative leadership style with strong people skills and the ability to function effectively within a shared-leadership context

Who You'll Work With
You will work with the Communications/Reach and Relevance team as well as leaders within the Global Energy and Materials (GEM) Practice. GEM is a McKinsey & Company Practice that supports clients in the areas of Oil & Gas, Metals & Mining, Electric Power & Natural Gas, Chemicals, Agriculture, Paper, Forest Products & Packaging, Engineering, Construction & Building Materials.What You'll Do
You will be an integral member of the global GEM Communications team, and will work with the GEM Communications Director and partners to design and implement a comprehensive event strategy to enhance the reputation of the firm and the GEM practice.
You will work closely with the GEM sector leaders to oversee the implementation of our events strategy across GEM, ensuring it supports GEM's thought leadership and enhances the reputation of McKinsey globally. You will build and manage our CRM database, ensuring we optimize our CRM tool at a practice, client service team and Partner level. Help create and maintain database of key connections within GEM. You will support pre-existing events and scale efforts to create new events that convene important clients, potential clients and influencers.
You will help GEM practices convene a strategically important set of hosted events. You will analyze engagement and use marketing principles to flex our strategy to ensure we are creating opportunities for our partners to make important connections within GEM globally. You will create and manage a monthly dashboard to report to leadership. You will build a best practice culture around conferences and events management. You will manage the relationship with the CRM Analyst team, providing opportunities to grow our database.
You will oversee the GEM budget and incoming invoices and create opportunities for GEM to share knowledge and insights at relevant and credible external third-party industry conferences and events. You will create a network of external industry professionals to ensure GEM R&R are up-to-date on industry best practices.
