Job Duties:
- An underwriter typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Meeting with clients to determine their needs and priorities when it comes to life insurance policies
- Reviewing applications for coverage to determine eligibility based on stated criteria
- Investigating applicants’ backgrounds to verify claims made in applications
- Negotiating with insurance companies to get the best possible rates for clients
- Reviewing proposals from companies requesting to offer new policies
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and regulations
- Explaining coverage options and terms to clients
- Recommending changes to existing policies to ensure coverage remains adequate
- Determining whether applicants are eligible for coverage based on stated criteria
