The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in the Thematic Team (TT) of Public Partnerships and Resourcing division (PPR), based in Rome, Italy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION:

PPR leads and coordinates WFP’s corporate resource mobilization efforts with Public Donors at capital, regional and country offices levels. Under the supervision of a Government Partnerships Officer (GPO), the incumbent will support the Thematic Team Head and team members in managing the relationship with several cross-functional and internal stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of one of the team’s GPO, the candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Assist with research on donor background and trends, including thematic policies and funding trends; assist in conducting internal research on relevant data and trends of WFP programmes, for the Thematic Team.
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of Thematic Team GPOs and Team Leader field missions, meetings, and conferences, briefing material and other administrative matters.
  • Provide support to GPOs in managing cross-functional relationships with the Programme and Policy Development Department (PD) and communication with PPR and other PA peers as required.
  • Help to schedule, set agenda, participate, and draft notes in meetings and events with PD and team activities as required.
  • Contribute to the internal communication of the team, draft web content, articles on the team’s achievements and other material aimed for internal use.
  • Contribute to developing relevant thematic product packages, PowerPoint presentation and publications, and layout solutions based on event’s objectives (meeting, workshop, training, etc.).
  • Contribute creative solutions in a deadline-driven, goal-oriented, multi-functional environment.
  • Follows all directions accurately and completes assigned tasks in a timely fashion, adhering to set deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months.
  • Proficiency in MS Office with excellent level in Excel, Power Point and SharePoint.
  • Written and oral proficiency in English – good command of a second UN language is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills, advanced drafting/writing skills are essential.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to set priorities and maintain high quality outputs within given deadlines.
  • Desire to build up learning about WFP’s mission and programmes.

SUPERVISION (Level/Methods of Supervision)

Under the direct supervision of the GPO Officer, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision. The Senior Government Partnerships Officer will be the second-level supervisor. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • Have a greater understanding of the World Food Programme’s work and its role within the wider humanitarian system.
  • Understand how WFP is funded and fundraises in support of its Changing Lives Agenda.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
