Background Turquoise Mountain is a non-profit, non-governmental organization specializing in heritage based urban regeneration, traditional craft-training and connecting artisans to market opportunities. We seek to provide jobs, skills, and a sense of pride, through heritage. Since 2006 Turquoise Mountain has restored 150 historic and community buildings, trained 10,000 craftspeople, generated direct sales of $7m in craft products and welcomed 1m visitors to our exhibitions worldwide. Context Turquoise Mountain is offering a five-month Design training to entry level woodwork trainees which will be delivered in parallel with their technical woodwork training. the aim of the training is to improve the trainees’ skills in furniture making by offering design principles and methods that will enhance their work and increase their opportunities in employment or establishing their own businesses Roles and Responsibilities Deliver a 5-months furniture design training to 15 trainees focusing on the following areas: • Develop a detailed furniture design curriculum; • Coordinate with woodwork and technical drawing trainers on the progress of the trainees; • Provide mentorship and feedback to the trainees through weekly assignments and oneon-one sessions; • Develop a graduation project with the trainees from concept to production. Skills: • A minimum of 5 years experience in furniture design. • Previous experience in training is a plus. • Good interpersonal skills with patience and flexibility. • Experience in crafts and cultural heritage.
