Gender and M&E Officer for GRB programme - Amman

UN Women محافظة عمان عمان الأردن

Background

Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

Over the past years, and in response to the need for increased accountability for implementation of gender equality commitments policies and financing decisions related to aid and domestic resources, UN Women played an active role with all its partners, to ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed in strategies, programmes and action plans. Commitments to promote gender equality need to be backed by adequate funds and systematically monitored for progress in reducing gender discrimination. Yet there is a disconnect between such commitments and allocated funding in many national budgets, including in Jordan. To bridge this gap, UN Women and the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) have been working with national partners to implement gender-responsive budgeting (GRB). The approach entails channelling adequate resources to meet the different needs of both women and men.
