Internship Duration: 3 months

Mercy Corps responsibilities

For the duration of this internship assignment, the intern will receive:

- Access to Mercy Corps online tools

- All other tools, materials, and communication requirements for this internship to be undertaken

- The transportation for field visits.

- All phone calls related to position will be covered (a SIM card and mobile phone)

Intern responsibilities

Intern will remain responsible for all costs associated with:

- Medical costs in addition to standard insurance coverage (vaccinations, if applicable)

- All other costs associated with this internship

About Mercy Corps:

Mercy Corps has been present in Jordan since 2002, helping citizens work toward building a more peaceful and hopeful future. Mercy Corps has been addressing the humanitarian needs in Jordan through a diverse portfolio of development and relief programs for the past 20 years. Due to the current humanitarian crisis related to the continual influx of refugees from bordering Syria, Mercy Corps is dramatically expanding its emergency programming. The organization is growing at a fast but sustainable pace and requires a strong leader to ensure Mercy Corps supports the healthy and efficient growth of the organization.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Mercy Corps’ The Resilient Youth-Socially and Economically Empowered (RYSE) program is developing a flagship model in which youth, governments, private sector companies, investors and civil society organizations educate and empower youth to become positive change agents and leaders. The RYSE program stands on three objectives. The first objective provides trainings and pathways for youth to become civically engaged leaders. The second one provides a comprehensive approach to help young people obtain the training and support needed to be strong candidates for better jobs. The third objective addresses formal societal structures that prevent youth from actively participating in civil society and the labor market.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

He/she will understand the development and implementation of the project’s activities under objective one.

He/she will be able to archive the project documents and official correspondences related to objective one.

He/she will be able to utilize the different IM system, forms, trackers/Excel sheets used by the program to follow-up on activities and keep them up to date.

He/she will be able to provide support to recruit and conduct training of trainer’s sessions for Civic Youth Leaders on transformative leadership (e.g., civic engagement, community needs assessment, how to develop and run youth initiatives, etc.). 

He/she will be able to support Civic Youth Leaders to conduct post-training activities (e.g., Community Needs Assessment, youth outreach, youth civic engagement sessions, open engagement days, and managing youth-led initiatives). 

He/she will be able to support youth leaders’ capacity building, and conduct regular meetings, learning circles, check-in visits, and needed trainings for them.

He/she will be able to provide technical support throughout the objective one activity (situational analysis, planning, implementation, evaluation, etc.).

He/she will be able to support the Acting Project Coordinator with the daily activities of project implementation.

He/she will be able to assist the Acting Project Coordinator to ensure all logistical matters and preparations for the objective one activities (data show, cash advance, PRs, refreshment, venue, etc.).

He/she will conduct regular check-in visits and follow up to youth civic engagement sessions to ensure high quality of implementation from the youth leaders.

He/ She will be able to check simple procurement transactions of the project and identify any missing documents/requirements.

DELIVERABLES:

The Project Intern – Civic Engagement is required to support with the implementation of objective one activities in Zaatari camp and ensure high quality of deliverables. At the same time, He/she will be provided with a learning opportunity through the on-job training and tasks with less or no accountability. He/she will provide support with following specific tasks:

Archive the project documents and official correspondences related to objective one.

Utilize the different IM system, forms, trackers/Excel sheets used by the program to follow-up on activities and keep them up to date.

Provide support to recruit and conduct training of trainer’s sessions for Civic Youth Leaders on transformative leadership (e.g., civic engagement, community needs assessment, how to develop and run youth initiatives, etc.). 

Oversee Civic Youth Leaders conducting post-training activities (e.g., Community Needs Assessment, youth outreach, youth civic engagement sessions, open engagement days, and managing youth-led initiatives). 

Support the Acting Project Coordinator with the youth leaders’ capacity building, conducting regular meetings, learning circles, check-in visits, and needed trainings for them.

Provide technical support throughout the objective one activities (situational analysis, planning, implementation, evaluation, etc.).

Support the Acting Project Coordinator with the daily activities of project implementation.

Assist the Acting Project Coordinator to ensure all logistical matters and preparations for the objective one activities (data show, cash advance, PRs, refreshment, venue, etc.).

Conduct regular check-in visits and follow up to youth civic engagement sessions to ensure high quality of implementation from the youth leaders.

Check simple procurement transactions of the project and identify any missing documents/requirements.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

BA in social work, or humanitarian studies or any related scientific field.

Fresh graduates, 0-6 months of experience.

Knowledge in humanitarian context (basics).

Knowledge in civic engagement and initiatives.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Computer skills (Microsoft word and excel basics).

Detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to stay on task and meet deadlines.

Teamwork spirit.

High Communication skills.

Camp experience preferred.
